Now I have "small cataracts" from long term prednisone use.

I had no idea of this side effect! I finally have my resection, get off all medications (except my zoloft), and now, I have to deal with cataracts!

I feel like it's always something. Have any of you gotten cataracts? If so, what was done to treat them? I see my opthamologist on Thursday.

I just wanted to give my Crohnnies a heads up... I had no idea.

I did know this is a side-effect of pred - I have a check every year with my Opthamologist, so far, so good.
Sorry you had this happen to you, like you said, if its not one thing its another.

And don't forget the osteoporosis risk! Have you even had a DEXA bone scan yet? "They" recommend after 3 months of prednisone use one should have a "baseline" DEXA scan.

I'm sorry about the cataracts, Mimi, but one can go quite a few years w/o any real problems from cataracts and the surgery to replace the lens is painless and very successful usually.

Glaucoma is an entirely different matter and while often responding well to eye drops is not as easily treated and rectified.

Prednisone the drug so many hate to love - or love to hate.

I have small cataracts - in fact one is congenital. Since I am older, it is impossible to tell if the non-congenital one is the result of prednisone usage or my age. At this point they aren't interfering with my vision so no action is needed. I have an exam every 6 months by an ophthalmologist because I am a glaucoma suspect. I get high eye pressures whenever one of my diseases flare.

me too.. youve got to read the warnings that come with the meds. i read every dang one i get , and if they dont give me one i ask for one. they have to give you one.

I did know that this is a side effect of Pred. I get my eyes checked every other year and they are still okay.
Like mimik81 said; It's a love/hate relationship with Pred.+

I hate pred if the doc had told me what it would do to me I would have stuck with the D
Somethings I got where not mention in the warning that came with it.
