First resection on Thursday-any advice for me

I'm facing my first resection this Thursday and I'm wondering what I should bring to the hospital.  I've got plenty of books, movies etc.., but I'm wondering about clothing.  Is it easier to just wear the hospital garb than to try and bring my own?  I was planning to bring a robe, slippers, undergarments, etc..  Will I be comfortable enough to wear any sort of sweat pants or stretchy pants?  The surgeon is going to start the surgery laproscopically, but may end up having to do an open incision.  It's about 8 inches of my terminal ileum that is being resected.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

I usually just take comfy pants and some t-shirts
I use the underwear from the hospital because I want to change underwear daily but I use the same pants if I am staying for less then a week and take maybe 3-4 t-shirts.

I wear the hospital garb. The men's pants are pretty comfy. Everytime I have been in the hospital I end up starting my period early so I bring supplies and lots of clean underwear. I also make sure I have a good supply of slipper socks. I hate having cold feet and messing with slippers is a pain. I also bring my own pillow from home. Good luck!! Don't be nervous, it really wasn't too bad.

I was like Irishmom, I preferred to wear the hospital gowns with the men's pj pants. Sometimes after the surgery you will get explosive diarrhea and I personally would rather soil their stuff than mine:)

I hope and pray your surgery brings you to a long long remission.

Hi i took loose fitting PJ's and robe and slippers also take some sanitary towels you may need them after the op for a few days good luck for thursday and wishing you a speedy recovery Bev x smilewinkgrin

Hi Extra underwear for sure. I wore the gowns till I was up and feeling better in about 3 days I guess. I also did some reading between naps.. hope all goes well and be waiting to hear how you do. I am very glad I had my surgery life has been better.lol gail

I wore the gowns, I didn't kow that they had pants. I think the nurses wanted to see my butt. lol
I brought a dvd player, nintendo ds and books and I did not pick up any of them. I did alot of walking around the floor.

I had an open surgery and I wore the gown and men's pants. I'll tell you, that was the *longest* period of time in my life (after-diapers) that I did not wear underwear. 0_o I had a suction-drain tube/bulb-thing that came out of my abdomen, very low and a panties' waistband would have been too high, so I just remained 'commando' until I was released to go home. Ah, and even *that* was fraught with peril. My unders were a bit too tight over my incision areas and I had my husband snip into the elastic waistband every 3 inches to relieve the pressure.
Loose, comfortable clothing.
Pillow from home. (pillow also came in handy on the drive home as I held it pressed over my belly to prevent any painful jiggling from road-bumps)
Books.
Laptop with some DVD movies. I chose movies rated G, PG or PG-13 so I wouldn't offend anyone with excessive movie-cursing-dialog.
I slept quite a bit.

I will tell you that you probably won't be reading too much. I found the most energy I had was to watch TV. So maybe a portable DVD player or something might be better than books or puzzles. I was too dopey to I think to be able to figure out a puzzle or to read. At least in my case that was true.
