Librax - no longer making generic?

I've been on the generic Librax for years and it has been the best drug in the world to me because it takes care of the stomach spams so quickly.  I had to get it refilled for the first time in a year and a half (first prescription was written for several a day, so a 3 month supply lasted me a year and a half).  My dr. called it in and when I got it in the mail, I was billed $120 bucks (and it was now written for 1 or 2 a day only).  I realized it was the brand name and called Medco, who told me that the people who manufacture Librax have stopped making a generic and there is no word if or when they will start again.

So, now we are up to almost $1 a pill after insurance (180 pills was over $400 before insurance!).  It's fine if I'm only hurting occassionally, but the methotrexate tablets are killing my stomach and while I wait for the injectable form to come through the mail order pharmacy, I've been taking 6 or so Librax a day!  I haven't went to their website yet to confirm but why, when health care is such a big issue, would a manufacturer stop making the generic?? 

I think that sucks! I use Librax on occasion when I am having a bad tummy day and they have really helped. In fact I have liked it more than Bentyl or Levsin at times. I see my GI in a couple of weeks and I will ask him about it. I never used it much, but if I can get some to use in the meantime, I will try.

I'd be curious to know what ya'lls pharmicists (those of you who take Librax OR the generic Chlordiazepoxide-Clidinium) have to say about the future of Librax and its generic.

MY pharmacist made it sound like not only were they not going to make the generic anymore but they weren't going to make the brand name either. The way he worded it was that the drug combination of the Chordiazepoxide/Clidinium would no longer meet the "new standards" of pharmacutical healthcare to get approval to manufacture the drug.

Since I can't find anything about it online and since my pharmacist wasn't absolutely positive himself because he'd only heard word-of-mouth rumors and not seen anything in writing (and then he started rattling on with a list of other drugs that are going through the same approval process and I started to get confused!), I'd really like to know what other pharmacists' knowledge on this subject is.

I might call a few other pharmacists around town to see if they know anything more...

Good luck, xraygrrl, Medco is already out of the generic.  Smaller pharmacies may still have some, but the mail orders may already be out.  That's how I found out about it - they sent me the brand name and I called. 

Kittikat, thanks for the information.  I'm really upset about it, but it's good to know.   This has worked WAY better than anything else out there for me.

What really gets me is that this happened one week and then the next week, Medco told me that some of the injectable methotrexate is not currently available and may not be available anymore either.  I've talked to 6 different people and gotten different answers on the methotrexate from Medco.  And I really need to switch to the injectable because the pills are killing my stomach (making me need the Librax!).  So here are two meds that are very important to me all in two weeks that are being done away with.  Kind of makes you not want to get your hopes up when a drug works because who knows how long it will be available!?     

I know what you mean!! You really have to have good insurance! Fortunately, I do! I get 30 pills a month and it's 211.00!! I only pay 5.00! So that's wonderful...
I only use them when I feeling unbearable...I only take one a day..

It causes constipation, tho. So does Zoloft, and Xanax, and Opana. Which I am on all of them. I call my tummy rock gut... I never go!! 1 every two weeks maybe! I take magnesium citrate to go.

The narcotics I do have to say warm up my stomach so the cramps do seem to help to slow down while I take the Opana. I feel like it's a never ending battle with this tummy issue... I think I'd rather have diarrhea!!
