If you've never used cortifoam just be careful with it when you put it into the dispenser, push slow or it will over-fill from the preasure of the can and remember to shake well, you may get more than 15 doses out of one can too.

For mouth ulcers I found that using a good probiotic daily has kept them at bay, I used to get awful deep ones in the roof of my mouth but not in the last 4ish yrs since using probiotics daily.

I had Crohn's in my rectum, anus and colon. From about 1994-1997. (diagnosed in 1982 aged 12) My bumhole was a complete mess, I used to get stuff stuck in it, was gross shakehead Only relief I got was having it surgically stretched monthly. I had a permanent proctocolectomy and an ileostomy in 1997 it was like a new lease of life. Only had one major flare since, Crohn's and a nasty fistula on the site of my stoma, had a revision of my ileostomy in 2002 but since then fingers crossed, only had upper GI probs, possible GERD and gastritis.

Hope you can get some relief soon, I know how you must feel cry

Hi, I'm new to this forum, just found it. I'm a Mom to an 11yr old boy who was diagnosed with Crohn's this May. We were in shock. He presented none of the usual symptons. In fact he couldn't have good BM's. We thought he had hemroids & then he got the abcess. It was horrible & very painful for him. It's still draining. He is now on mega doses of antibiotics so it will clear up. His Dr. said the Remicade will help it heal faster. He had blood work done, colonoscopy, & an MRI and his Dr said he will do well on Remicade since it is only in his rectum. We are going for his first infusion next Wed. My questions to anyone who had Remicade are: How fast will the Remicade work? He is down to 86 lbs. and is alway tired & his joints ache all the time. Will he have to be on this for the rest of his life? His is going to do 2 wks, 6 wks then 8 wks infusions. Has anyone's gone into remission and not got any more abcesses once they started the Remicade infusions? Just looking for some answers since we are new to this whole process. Thanks to all.  confused

For some it works almost straight away for some it dont :S
For me it is not working to well but it did for the first 3 infusions then it stopped working.

If you get Remi it is not good to stop it, you could develop antibodies and it would become usless.

Hi,

I find my periannal/rectal crohn's harder to control than it is higher in my bowel. Over the years (and I mean lots of them) I have tried cortifoam, salofalk and steroid supp., but remicade was the only drug to heal the ulcers. On the start of the remicade I had a CD ulcer the size of a 50 cent piece, but upon colonoscopy 1 year later, it was scarred over. However, after 1.5 years I had to discontinue the remicade as I developed Lupus.

Hello GardenLover! Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear about your son! I hope the surgeon really opened up that abscess so it can heal completely from the inside out. I also hope you have found a gastroenterologist and colo-rectal surgeon who really know Crohn's. That is very, vey, very important!

The antibiotics kill the bacteria in the tissue surrounding the abscess. Antibiotics can't get inside an undrained abscess. Remicade can help your son's immune system chill out and reduce/eliminate inflammation -- basically stop his own immune system from attaching him, which can cause abscesses! Many people do quite well for a long time on Remi (or its sister Humira). I am glad your doctor is using a big gun like Remi right away! You want to stop or slow down any damage the Crohn's might do because he is starting so young.

I suggest you use the search feature on this forum to look for topics. This is a wonderful group of people with great advice on many topics. Don't hesitate to ask questions!. Please let us know how he is doing!

i have crohns/colitis as well. i have crohn's in the terminal ilieum which was ressected in 08. i also have active disease in colon/ rectum. it just sucks.
