Question about Prometheus test

Recently my gastro ordered a Prometheus test and one of the results was high (CBir 1 was 39.3 and should be <21). This was the only result that was out of normal range. My ASCA was 12 / <20 and my ANCA was <12.1 / <12.1. Promethesis wrote "No crohn's or ulcerative colitis" as it's findings. However, when I looked online I see where this "CBir1" is a marker for crohn's. My gastro called it a false positive saying many people could have a higher than normal cbir1 and not have crohn's. But I'm still very concerned by this. Should I be? Does this mean I'm developing IBD or already have it or is it like my gastro said, "nothing to be very concerned about". I've read the articles online about cbir1 and know it's tied to 50% of patients with crohn's...other than that I felt like I was trying to read a language I don't understand. Are these tests very accurate?

Yes, I've had this for 11 years and have been diagnosed with IBS from 2 colonoscopies ('98, '05), 1 small bowel follow, ct scan and other blood work. The only abnormality ever detected anywhere was this one level. Since I was concerned about this my gastro ordered another small bowel follow, which I go for on Thursday.

MisterErl1979, I'd say the Prometheus test is likely correct. Given that you've had a couple of colonoscopies and several other tests that were clear, and that the Prometheus Labs test agrees with those results (ie, no IBD), I'd say it's correct.

It is true that some people have higher than normal levels of one of those particular antibodies but do not have Crohn's. That is why the Prometheus Labs tests looks at several antibodies AND their levels. Testing positive for one is not always enough to give a positive overall result for Crohn's. The exact implications of being positive for CBir are not completely understood, but I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

I had my small bowel follow today and it came back normal so I guess it probably is IBS, which is changing the way it presents itself. Anyway, I thank you very much for your responses and I hope you're feeling good today.
