Prednisone...help please!

Good morning everyone! I have been flaring pretty regularly and last Thursday my doc sent me to the hospital. I was currently on a clinical trial, so they immediately gave me Solumedrol, an IV steroid in the hospital to calm the flare. Unfortunately my body, like so many, does so poorly on steroids. I break out in terrible sweats...feel so incredibly uneasy and simply hate my life! It may be helping with the Crohn's however there really isn't anything it's doing to help my day to day functioning! On Monday they released me from the hospital with Prednisone, 40mgs, and I am trying to wean off it now. Does anyone have any advice? I have been on 80 in the past but it was years ago and I feel like I am losing it...I am shaky and can hardly sleep...I really don't know what to do. Thanks so much!

I have great compassion for you because I absolutely hate being on prednisone too. I wish I had a trick to help lessen the side effects for you. The only thing that helps me is tapering to 30 mg. I asked my doc why it didn't bother me as much when I was in the hospital and he said because I laid in bed all day and he gave me something to sleep at night. It is one of those necessary evils we have to put up with. Good luck and I hope you can taper down and stay healthy.

im on 30 myself right now. im not having any bad side effects from it except the urge to eat my food, your food and her food all in one sitting. im a skinny guy so i kinda like it, lol. i do have night sweats every so often but its when im having a bad night so im not sure if its the pred doing it to me. i wish you the best of luck. they have me on 30mg for the next 3 months.....

Ask (and by ask I mean demand) your doctor for sleeping pills and possibly some ativan or the like to help calm you during the day. I suffered through many bouts like you until one doctor sent me home with these and boy the difference. You shouldn't need either for long, so your doctor shouldn't have too much of an issue. But you need to be able to function and you need to sleep to heal. So IMHO both are necessary. If all else fails, cry, doctors can't usually handle that and give in. ; )

I agree 100% with Suzanne. Ask your doctor for something to help you sleep and something for the anxiety. I use Xanax and that works well for me. I never take more than 30mg as my starting dose, anything about that and I get the bad side effects. Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way.

Thank you guys! I called my doc and she's going to give me something to help me sleep! I just don't want to take any more Percoset...did anyone hear about the FDA wanting to take it off the market? Sorry, so off topic..thanks again!!!

Agree with Zanne---Ativan was the only thing that would help me sleep and that would help with the anxiety when I was on high doses of preddy. Problem was, my GI doctor doesn't believe in the "psychological" drugs to help with CD, so I had to get them from my primary care.
