I was just reading through some posts and came across some comments on radiology imaging. I have had a small bowel follow through, a fistulogram, and a CT scan before...What other imaging can be done for the small bowel and fistulas?

I read something about a bowel MRI?? And I've heard of a CT scan specific to the small bowel? I'm not sure my small town hospital has any of these, but I'm heading out of town for a consult on my fistula and would like to know if there are any better imaging scans I should request.

I never heard of a Fistulagram, what is it? I've only had Ct scans with contrast and SBFT.

Crazy daisey I'm surprised that you have UC or Crohns living in Alaska the last wilderness hwere there is no smog pollution and all of the city folk stresses. I think I would be cured if I lived in Alaska.

I believe CT Enterography would be the next best, but our GI informed us that the downside is that it requires considerably more radiation exposure. 

Is your fistula involving the small bowel? Just curious to know what treatment you've had and how long you've had it.

A fistulogram is where they inject dye directly into the fistula then take x-rays to see where it's going.


Yes, my fistula is from the small bowel to the outside of my belly, on my resection scar. So far I've only tried Asacol for a couple months and then the anti-MAP treatment for three months with some flagyl along the way. I'm going to see a specialist soon...who will probably try to convince me to start Remicade...
