I don't know if there has been a thread about this but here I go with my problem.

I noticed about two months ago a red rash on my arms a couple of times but it went away in an hour and didn't have a problem with it until recently. I get this weird warm rash on my arms that is now way more reddish than before and it is irritating and itches and i once had it on my forehead too. Besides that I've been getting a burning sensation on my cheeks without any rash on my face. The rash on my arms goes away after using bepanthol but sometimes gets back in the evening. It definitely gets worse in the sun and I think that the sun is probably the main reason why I'm getting this. I hope this won't get worse and I guess I'm gonna have to stay at home between 9am and 5pm.

I've just been wondering if any of you guys who take Humira have experienced this?

Hello,and yes I did get this with the Humira,I actually ended up with drug induced lupus,and not to scare you,but that is what I first noticed was my cheeks. I went off of the Humira,but I was not very symptomatic when my GI put me on it,so I was very happy to stop it,my face was on fire.  I would put a high SPF sunscreen on your arms,I still do that anyway.

I haven't heard anything about being sun sensitive and being on Humira.

So, you had both the burning face symptom and a rash on your arms, right? How bad was it when you got off it? I realized just yesterday that the face and arms rash and burning is characteristic for Lupus-like syndrome (God forbid you get real Lupus from it which is always possible) and I was pretty scared but not entirely sure it was it. We'll see what happens next.

Thanks for the advice and thanks so much for posting! It's easier when you know you're not the only one dealing with this.

I did fine off the Humira,but ,again,I was doing well prior,my GI put me on it because of a stricture,and it did decrease the inflammation,but I'm still on Asacol & Imuran. I felt much better off the Humira than on it,but everybody is differant.

Hey guys! I was wondering if  you are on any other med besides Humira?

I just got back from my GI and she's final put me on Humira since Remicade stop working for me. As well she put me back on Imuran. Now I love sun tanning to un stress and love vacationing in the Caribbeans. My first question was can I tan on Humira and Imuran. She said If I never had a bad reaction before to imuran I would be fine. I even spoke to the Humira nurse about tanning, she said it was fine. I know some people react differently to meds.You may want to conisder if your on another med or what not.

Humira could have some adverse reactions that result in an allergic rash, urticaria or "fixed drug reaction" which can be a red patch at a random place on the body. You should talk to your doctor about it.

Imuran and sun do not mix. Imuran can cause photosensitivity (I think that there is a warning about UV or sun exposure on the labeling). This will make you burn easily and results in keratoses or dark mole-like skin lesions. If you have to avoid the sun because of this, be sure to supplement more vitamin D than normal since you will be missing your largest source of the vitamin.

All I know is I'm on Imuran and it doesn't say on the label to avoid sun. Says nothing about the sun at all.I've been on it before and tanned as well never had a bad reaction. But that is just me I know everyone reacts differently to meds. I'm not on humira yet so I can't say anything about that. I'll have to learn by tanning but also being careful and not stay in the sun to along at one time.

But I think it's a good idea for everyone to speak with their doctor especially if you have a rash.

I don't know how likely it is for the photosensitivity to happen with imuran, but there are a few reports of it. It does not happen for everyone, so I seem to have overstated the problem. Just so that you don't think that I invented it, see: Lareb.nl

I would have to agree with you on Imuran and sun not mixing. I've never had any allergic reactions to sun while I was on Imuran but I tried my best to stay out of it. From time to time I would sit in the sun for about 20 minutes just to get some vitamin D, but looks like I won't be able to do that now. Going to town when there's sun became a problem now. Why do I agree with you? Because you can get cancer while on Imuran and too much sun is dangerous for healthy people, let alone for us who take drugs that have such side-effects, no matter how rare we think they are. I do remember reading a warning about Imuran and sun but somehow they reduced the safety information about it about a year ago (isn't that weird??).

I wouldn't trust the label hehe because they tend to leave out a lot of things...

If I were you, I wouldn't tan on Humira. In my hospital they warn people to stay our of the sun while on Remicade and Humira. I even talked to this girl who was on Humira and decided to use a tanning bad. She got such a huge allergic reaction all over her body and the doctor was really surprised she even thought about doing such a thing.

There was never a question of wether I believed you or not, because I do. All I'm saying is a little Vit D is good for you. And my doc said Humira and Imuran were fine to tan with a little at a time. Maybe shes wrong, maybe shes right. I only know by my experince and with Imuran I can tan, maybe most people on Imuran can't. I dunno (not a doc) and I have yet to go on Humira, I will take your advice about the sun. I will stress my point that everyone reacts differently to meds. (The one thing I hate about writing on here is that sometimes people might read things you write the wrong way... not trying to cause a debate with you, I believe you) :)
