I've read a lot about people with Crohn's having liver problems or liver disease that pops up because of either the CD or the many meds we are on for CD. So knowing I'm at risk for that, I have no idea what type of symptoms I should be looking for in terms of liver problems. I had my gallbladder removed about two years ago in addition to the CD, but had no complications from that surgery.

does your doctor give you blood tests to check your liver enyzmes?

People with liver disease often have jaundice and swollen ankles (from salts not being processed properly). Blood work would be the easiest way to detect liver problems. If you are on any serious medications (like Imuran, 6MP, Remicade, etc), your doctor should be testing your blood every 3 or so months.

Yeah, I'm having the blood work done, but he only tells me when something is abnormal, not normal, so hopefully everything is okay. I'll ask next time just to make sure.

I have fatty liver and have my liver enzymes tested every 8 weeks. Whilst on azathiroprine I developed liver problems. Itching, yellow skin,eyes, urine and stools. Sickness and loss of appitite. Believe me if you have severe liver problems your body will tell you!

Always ask for a copy of your lab work. They might grump a bit but it's handy to have. I don't say this so that you can self diagnose but rather so you can be sure when something comes back different. Liver enzymes will indicate liver issues. Check you sed rate and alk/phos. These to can easily be off from the medications but you can point these out to eleviate some of your fear. I am currently waiting on a liver biopsy because my enzymes have been off for years. Very easy to blame the meds but I want to know that they know what
s going on. I also had my gall bladder removed last summer with the hope that it would eliminate the high right side abdominable pain. It didn't. This pain can also indicate something in the liver area. Please don't hesitate to ask your doctor questions or get another opinion.
