A newby here, I found this site while trying to research for medical answers to a new symptom that I'm having. Im spitting up blood. I didn't find any answers but now I'm just alittle scared with all the researched that I read. I can't diagnose myself with the new symptom I'm having I could make a guess but thats gets me no where so its best I'll leave that up to my Dr.  From what I looked up it could be afew different things going on I'm not sure whichso I will call Dr. on Monday.

I was diagnosed with crohns in 2008 I had stomach problems years before getting diagnosed and over the counter med zantac  helped me for afew years then I had a bad go and had to go to the hospital I was amitted the pain was bad. After having several Endoscocy/colonoscopy,xrays I was told I had crohns.

I have a small 3 inch infected part of instestine they could not get pass. A small ulcer,IBS, gerd, gastritus. I also had to have my esphagus stretched. The first time they did not put me to sleep "make sure you ask to be put to sleep during those procedures it hurts badly. Well the second time they put me to sleep and any future ones they will put me to sleep to.

I'm taking nexium,entocort,asacol.

I have several bouts of bad stomach cramps each week and it doesn't seem to matter what I eat.

I'm am up all night lots of nights from stomach cramping. I have not had any surgery but I'm thinking it doesn't lie off to far from the future because the meds don't help always.  I was hoping I could go off them soon in the future but it doesn't look like it.

I think we can better understand our crohns disease to hear from others so although I'm not doing great right now doesn't mean that tommorrow won't be better. It seems night time is when I begin cramping the worse.

I don't think its the esophagus because I had that done over ayear ago. I'm pretty sure the pain is comming from the
infected part of the intestine area because of the reflux and gas. I stay so darn bloated and full of gas. I have the IBS to. I spit up a mouth full of blood four different times this week. Alittle clotty and some mucus bright red then it clears up after I spit the blood up. I thought since it cleared up after the first time it would stop then I got alittle worried tonight since it happened for the fourth time. I had made a Dr. appt, canceled becaused it cleared up I'm not coughing at all. So now I have to make a appt. monday. I have no idea why I'm spitting up this blood for sure but I think it may be an ulcer because once I was told I had one then once I was told I didn't have one. So I really don't know. I thought I read that strictures could be ulcers I don't know. I'm just learning alittle of all this medical stuff with my crohns disease. I start hurting cramping mostly through out the nights so I stated taking all my meds at night thinking this would help more, Nope! I'm thinking to that since I may have a sticture due to the infected area that maybe some food has caused the area to blead some I'm at a loss until I see the Dr. because I don't even know if thats possiable.
I know I'm not canceling appt. this time this last spit up was kinda scarry its like where in the world is this comming from. I called the Dr thinking maybe there would be emergency calls # because its friday evening but they're recorder says call 911 for emergency. I know if I go to the hospital they would keep me because of cramping and having crohns. I know this is what my Dr. will do when I see him,he will admit me. I'm not to big of a hurry to get there. But if I spit up blood any more before appt. I'll have no choice to go to the Emergency room.

Many of us Crohnies also suffer with GERD/Acid Reflux. I take 60 mg Prilosec everyday. I see you are taking Nexium, maybe you need a med switch???? Another thought is I am wondering too if you might have some type of stricture going on in your system. I too am glad you called your doc and looking forward to hearing whats going on. Keep us posted.

Gut inflammation will cause stomach acid production - it's something to do with the histamine produced by the inflammation response (a bit more involved than that, but the histamine is the key). You might want to try the older H2 antacids (Tagamet, Zantac or Pepcid) and not the currently fashionable proton pump inhibitors (like Nexium). They work more directly on the source of the acidity without compromising your digestive process. The real key is getting your gut settled down. While you wait for your doctor to come up with a good control regime, you should try taking a probiotic. There are many things that you can do that will help the problem, but as a first action, taking a probiotic is probably the most useful. Good ones include Culturelle, Align and VSL#3. The first two are available in many drug stores and drug departments in the US and supposedly 30 countries worldwide - but don't ask me which ones.

about the bleeding - it likely is happening above the small intestine, since there is very little chance of return from the SI up into your stomach and above. That is why I think it would be either a stomach ulcer or some problem with the site of your stretching procedure. You should know that although the Nexium is probably working on the acidity, there are other components of stomach juices that can cause problems for your esophagus. Your stricture is likely contributing to reflux because it will be slowing or preventing the normal clearing of your stomach contents after digestion.
