I am not on it anymore, but my one tip for you is to take it at bedtime. I avoided any side effects by doing it that way. Hoping this med brings you to a long long remission. Many have been on this medication for years with success. Also, be aware that it takes about 3 months to get to a theraputic level. Good luck!

I've been on 50mg daily for five years now, with almost no side effects and with a remarkable reduction in edema and inflammation in my terminal ileum. When my new GI doctor took me off Pentasa (which had obviously not done me any good), my ileum was 50% blocked, and we didn't know whether it was scar tissue (too late!) or inflammation (still something you can do about it). The 6MP has been a lifesaver for me. Admittedly, I'm on a pretty low dosage. But I take it first thing every morning, and it's kept me from another bout of abdominal surgery. Of course, it hasn't helped my symptoms at all. I still have diarrhea, joint pain, the works. But, as far as I know, my intestines have been relatively clear for the past five years, and I haven't had another perianal abscess or fistula.

Ever since I've been on it I've been experiencing a LOT of hair loss. Anyone else deal with this? It's to the point where I pull out clumps at a time - I've got a lot of hair to start with so it's not like I'm bald or anything, but I don't like it nonetheless.
