ChronieMom,
The only test they had equipment for was an ultrasound xray. They thought it was my appendix gone bad. So, they took my appendix out only to find out they were fine. The surgeon, thank goodness, had the mind to keep looking, He opened me up lower and found a complete blockage and abscess in the small bowel. had that thing perforated, no I would not have survived it over there for sure. He did a resection, took out a foot of the small bowel. He & the ER dr came twice a day and saw me-my nurses were totally awesome but spoke no English, neither did the drs.I have a pice of paper with a drawing he made after surgery to show my husband and daughter what he did. I had laid in the bed for 3-4 days at the villa and a dr came out twice. The 2nd time he called an ambulance. I was too sick to be scared all I wanted to do was be put out of my misery. The nurses would make motions on if it was medicine for my stomach or whatever trying to communicate.I never one time had to ask for one thing including pain medication. They changed those IV's out on the money. No call buttons at bedside, an old black telephone with a guy answering Bueno, lol. My IV pole was some old rusty thing with two wheels, most of their equipment is donated from our drs right here in the states. They are so dedicated to their profession and patients you just cannot imagine. The best care I have ever received. I sure have never been cared for like that in the hospitals here in the states.
Like I said, someone told me they built a big new hospital in Cancun, they really needed it. my daughter rode up the elevator to the 3rd floor and walked in on my surgery, lol. Needless to say she made a fast exit.
Take a cell phone with a good battery and charger, plenty of meds and you should do just fine, Enjoy, I am envious.
