Its a little piece of plastic/rubber tubing that is placed in a fistula tract to either drain or cut into tract to allow all the infection, puss to come out. It just allows the skin to stay open while everything is drained out. A seton is usually placed for preparation of closing the tract, depending on what kind you have. It can be painful at times, as it moves around its rubbing up against the infected area. Sitz baths with epsom salt are always very comforting for the pain and recovery time.
