Hemorrhoid... how long to go away?

I have had a hemmy for 2 weeks. It's driving me nuts. I thought online I saw that they normally go away within 2 weeks. Still no luck. Why won't this darn thing go away? How long does it take?

Are you sure its a hemmoroid? I know you do not have a confirmed diagnosis yet, but with Crohns you can have skin tags that get irritated at times, also it could some other type of growth related to Crohns. Sorry not more help.

Yeah, I am pretty sure it's a hemmy. I had that "lesion" before that was an abscess I think, but that has gone. This is a bump that is purplish, so I am pretty sure it's a hemmy.

BTW, the last time I saw my PCP, he said he thinks I probably have IBS & IBD. He said blood & mucus is NOT something that is seen with IBS. And my SBFT confirms the IBD. He's pretty sure it's CD. My GI, on the other hand, says lymphocytic colitis, but it COULD be CD if the biopsy was taken at the right stage of the disease life or something like that.

Anyway, I have just been feeling like crap lately. Seems like everything is going to sh--. I now have a wart on my finger I can't get rid of... I had that "lesion" & now this hemmy. Plus the abd. pain & GI issues. Headaches.... back pain (but that's a whole other issue).

I just keep thinking if something will get better, I can deal with the other stuff...

Mucus is seen with IBS as well, but not blood unless there is a hemmie involved (I'm referring to one who has IBS only), you could ask him to "band" the hemmie(s) for you, that's a much safer process than getting them cut off because with crohn's being able to cause perianal crohn's skin tags which look simiar to hemmies but they're flesh colored and not usually purple.

I always like to post this link for people to make sure they can compare what they see on the pics of the link to what they actually have as a guide....

What?!? I thought they just go away after a while. How long do you wait before you need to have something done?

I have tried everything... the PH stuff, baths with epsom salt... no luck.

It's just really uncomfortable. I had to switch from my thongs (TMI, I know...) because they rub so much. Now it's sore into my female areas because of where the hemmy is located. Awful uncomfortable.

I haven't had bleeding in a week or so. Most of my bleeding happened weeks ago before I got this hemmy.

I do have some skin tags around there, too. But I have had those for a long time.

So... how do you know when you need to have this looked at? Or have it removed or whatever? I figured it would be gone by now... Not happy about this...

hukleberrie - both headaches and back pain can be caused by Crohn's. Treat the symptoms by all means, but control your Crohn's for better results.

I stongly suggest you see your GI or a colon/rectom specialist to properly DX if you have hemmies or possibly new perianal crohn's skin tags which they should not try to remove while they are flaring as they are not likely to heal but instead remain an open wound (which is what I've been told for almost 2 decades now as I have perianal crohn's skin tags that were banded because they were mistaken for hemmies when infact they never were)...get checked out by a specialist.

Man, I would KILL for a hemmie being my problem - try an abscess and a tube poking out your butt for 5 months! then you'll not only have to give up thongs, you'll have to wear pads 24/7 and u won't be able to sit down!!!

phobeskye86~ That's a bummer. I am sorry about that. I had a "lesion" as I was told it was, which I am sure was an abscess. Luckily it went away, then returned & has currently MIA again, thank goodness. It was so painful. I am sorry you have to deal with that.

Anyway, here's the thing... I was diagnosed with IBD in Feb 08 after a positive SBFT. Then the back & forth between you have IBD, we aren't sure if it's CD or what... then being told, hmmm... must be IBS since the last c-scope was clear & my labs never have a high CRP or ESR. Just high WBC. Currently U of M has my diagnosis as lymphocytic colitis. So I get ignored. Well, at least not taken seriously.

Anyway, maybe I have a really mild case or what have you, but since I have had such a fight trying to get treatment, and not much luck or help, I have decided that doctors just aren't for me. This whole charade is just overwhelmed me a bit too much. It's strained my life, financially, emotionally, which in turn effects my family. I just can't take it anymore. I am not strong enough to keep pushing for treatment. It's been over 2 years of feeling like hell & it just gets worse & worse. What started with weight loss & more frequent bowel movements with a little blood has turned into lesions (& now this new "hemmy"?) growing on my bum & vomiting & diarrhea & constipation & intense pain & exhaustion & headaches & catching ever illness that passes through.... etc., etc..

Anyway, I can't keep bugging or go to the doctor. It's not helping. It's too expensive. I am too tired.

So, that being said, I need to find a way to feel somewhat better. If I can't treat the cause, I need to treat the symptoms. Why won't this hemmy go away? Is there some magical treatment I am missing?

I had a really bad Hemmie for over a year straight! I finally asked my G.I for some prescription ointment and he gave me Proctosol and OMG it was gone with the quickness (I feel like an idiot for being so stubborn headed for so long). Don't be stubborn like me.

Huckleberrie, it sounds like you’ve been neglected by the medical world, as so many of us have. Has nobody suggested a colonoscopy for you? They should definitely do one with all the bowel symptoms you’ve been having/bleeding etc!   I understand you wanting to give up on the medical professionals, they don’t really understand and never really can, my last GI was completely negligent and didn’t even look at my abscess, just waited for me to end up in the ER again….. but now I have found a crohn’s specialist who actually understands and it is so worth it.   In the mean time though, have you heard of the specific carbohydrate diet? I am currently reading breaking the vicious cycle and I highly recommend you read the book – even if you don’t decide to try the diet. It’s amazingly factual and full of stuff I think would help you. Not to mention the wonders of the diet, which I am *trying* really hard to stick to. I guess trying is better than not trying at all but I need to be a lot more strict with it! It might just be an answer for you that doesn’t involve doctors….. I’ve heard stories of the SCD clearing up peri-anal disease miraculously, drug free!

I have had 2 colonoscopies. First one showed lymphocytic colitis or focal active colitis. Second one after a few months on prednisone & azulfidine was clean. My first EGD was clean, the last one in January showed inflammation & ulceration.

I am still not sure exactly what my problem is. It's kinda hard to do a diet for something when you aren't even sure what your problem is.

I have been seen by so many doctors.My lasts GI actually threw her hands in the air & told me she didn't know what to do with me. I pushed to get into U of M to be seen by a leading IBD doc, but have found not a whole lot of help there either. There aren't any other doctors around to see. No GIs anyway. I either have to continue with my IBD doc at U of M or just ignore everything & quit seeing docs all together.

I have tried so many diets, fructose free diet, gluten free diet, lactose free diet... etc... I just really try to keep up my weight, I have been able to on a diet that includes lots of calories. Chocolate milk & candy bars. I am afraid the SCD would have me losing more weight & I finally gained a little back.

Your ESR and CRP being normal is no indication of not having crohn's. I am considered to have severe active crohns and my esr and crp are always normal. Therefore my PCP won't do anything so I always deal with my GI who understands my situation better.

Really?!? Hmmmm... that is interesting. Docs always act like cuz the levels are okay, or borderline, that I am okay. I have not been okay.

But this is the GI who has ignored me this last time. Grrr..

So, still I am wondering... how long for a 'roid to heal?

Any good at home treatments (besides seeing the doc & all that)?

I had long smoldering CD. I went 25 years with three obstuctive flares that came at closer and closer intervals.  My GI finally talked me into a resection.  It came apart five days later.  I spent a month  in the hospital and had to have a temp. ostomy.  Reversal was last November. 

I finally had a scope and she could only get up ten inches before hitting a stenosis at the anastomosis.  Now she's referred me to a specialist in Pittsburgh and  mentioned possibly dilation. 

Well, I asked her about this as an alternative before the resection and she said it wouldn't work.  

Has anyone had this done?

I've never had a hemmie go away. Got some real bad ones after giving birth, they are still there.

Still all purple & sore after a long time? Really?

I never got any with my two births or anything. Now all the sudden I have this one. Ugh.

one of my alternative docs told me to use rutin for hemi's. rutin is an antioxidant. he said it should clear things up in a few days. we'll see as i'm having a little bout with this right now myself. the hot weather seems to exacerbate any abscesses and the such.
