Mucus is seen with IBS as well, but not blood unless there is a hemmie involved (I'm referring to one who has IBS only), you could ask him to "band" the hemmie(s) for you, that's a much safer process than getting them cut off because with crohn's being able to cause perianal crohn's skin tags which look simiar to hemmies but they're flesh colored and not usually purple.
