I have all the symptoms for Crohns but I am extremely busy with my business this time of year. I am a self employed person ( i work alone at my floral shop) who has scheduled clients weeks in advance and then I am stuck with the holidays and such coming up in later months. They want me to take tests and such I just can't fit in right now... I'm booked for weddings and events every weekend until the second week of Nov and then I'll be slammed for Thanksgiving and the Holidays...
Do I wait until Jan and starve myself till I can get the tests done or is there another option out there... Is there a blood test or something they can use to get me started on some type of regimen until I can get into the tests and more detailed understanding of my condition later in Jan when I can take some time off? I can't handle the pain but I can't take time off either????

I know it must be hard...but better safe then sorry...you are gonna have to try to find some time to get your tests and doctor visits in, or your just gonna end up in the ER...

I agree with Eranjo, you can't just let this continue to go on, it will only get worse until as suggested you wind up in the ER. You might talk to your doctor about your schedule etc, and see if he will give you at least some Predisone or something to help quiet it for now, but since you haven't been fully diagnosed, some docs are not comfortable with doing that. I'm going to see my doc on the 22nd... Again, waking up at 6 to be there by 8:00 so I can open the shop at 9:00... I'm hoping he will at least help me until I can get in. I can't tell a bride I can't do her wedding because I have to go in for tests, I can't not go to the doc for tests because I may end up in the ER instead of taking care of my client. I just love catch 22's!

Robin - I'm a newbie to this too (my child was just diagnosed Crohn's in March), but I would suggest you get started on a good multivitamin (Forvia is what we use), omega fatty acids (i.e. fish oil capsules), and a probiotic (VSL#3 is the best one) at a minimum. If you do have Crohn's, it will likely sap your nutrition levels and leave your body malnourished and possibly anemic. (Are you very pale?)  You can end up being very very sick and require hospitalization if this is really Crohn's or colitis.  Please be careful...maybe this bride could find another florist so you can get healthy?  By the way, it only took about 2 days to get my daughter diagnosed... one day to prep, one day for colonscopy.  Hope that helps.

Well the primary test is a colonoscopy and that takes about 4 hours, from arrival until you are fully alert and ready to resume normal activities. The prep the day before is mostly done in the evening at home. So you should be able to work with your doctor to get that scheduled. If he wants to do a small bowel follow through that can also be done in a half day, with only a fast the evening before. These are not inpatient hospital tests and should be able to be accommdated with most any schedule. Just discuss it with the doc and see what they can work out.

Don't you have some kind of back-up? What happens if you have a car accident or sprain your wrist? Do you know another florist who you can swap covering the urgent stuff with? You should check that out just for the peace of mind. Maybe you should open late on Monday mornings just so you can have a time for appointments.

Being a fellow florist...put out a help wanted add NOW for a designer and start looking for some support! We florists think we have to do everything on our own...when actually...most clients don't even know if you or someone else is doing it! When I take Wedding orders I always assure my Brides that what ever goes out the door has "our" approval. (Even if I've only just inspected it) Brides always want you to promise, You'll do it.....Don't put yourself in that corner. Be assuring and confident when you tell them this. I have worked Wedding for about 23 years and understand exactly what you are going through....trust me...!! I put my symptoms off for 2 years and ended up in ER witha blockage during a Wedding Weekend/Holiday open house/and Christmas show. The stress of all of all you have coming up will NOT help. You have to eat! you have to sleep.......you'll be fried if you don't keep your nutrients up! Even if you can't afford to hire someone...do it anyway...because in the long run if you end up gone, or no show...it will look really bad for your business and you'll be out the money anyway. I agree as well that you need to find the time to get yourself checked out. All you need to do is find a way to spare a day and a half. At the most, you'll need an afternoon and evening for the prep and then a day for the colonoscopy. My doctor suggested a small bowel follow through after the colonoscopy and I went straight from there to get it done. I was home by 1:00 pm to rest and recover and back to work then next day.

You need to get a diagnosis so that you can start treatment and get control over your life/career back. Spending time stressing over it without treatment will only make things worse, as everyone else has said. Stress can be a major factor in symptoms, often immediately so in my case.
