Elaine Gottschall says one cup of home made yogurt has 700 billion beneficial bacteria in it. This link says 3 billion in a tablespoon, and from a "small bowl" of home made yogurt "you would receive 1.5 trillion beneficial bacteria - 100 times more bacteria than a 15 billion capsule."

JMO, but it seems to me you just can't get too many beneficial bacteria in your gut. Prior to last century, our ancestors got beneficial bacteria from nearly everything they put in their mouths... Now we're at the other end of the spectrum, getting beneficial from almost NOTHING we put in our mouth--unless we make sure its there by eating fermented foods...
