Quick question..who has had a skin tag removed?

My surgeon says he can remove it no problem...i think i may have to call him because i notice it seems to be getting infected under it where a fissure lays...i am just wondering...who has had it removed and was it painful..or was it easy...

I had one that my Ob/gyn snipped off after my daughter was born. He asked, and I said go for it. I had an epidural anyway. No problems from it at all.

Edited -- obviously in a slightly different area. Still think the healing would be similar. Mine was not infected.

They are so gung ho about surgery aren't they? I am really racking up points here as far as surgery goes...this would be my 4th surgery for Crohn's if decide to do it..part of me thinks..just do it and get it over with...i had three other surgerys prior...i just want this thing gone..this is where i am having pain and it bleeds..and it has a small part collecting pus underneath...its not major..but if i wait..well it might decide to grow.....i am thinking i will just call on Monday...my GI i like him...but the problem with him is i think he doesn't believe i have Crohn's...even though i have been diagnosed with it...just because my issues are not the same as others he must be dealing with...and the ladies in the office are as rude as they come..i would switch..but i am too close to Remicade to to do that...

I completely understand your concerns about not wanting to have peoples' replies to be seen by someone else and end up causing trouble for you in the future. I have issues with my perianal crohn's skin tags, I was tole they were hemmies (the skin tags is how my CD started, not in the TI like most) anyways, they banded the tags while the tags were in a flare, BAD IDEA TO DO ANYTHING WITH TAGS DURING FLARE (when the tags are enlarged and hard is when they are considered to be in a flare...apparently getting them snipped off when not flaring is fine but does not guarantee that new ones won't re-appear cuz they most often do.

Gettng anything done (especially cut off) while flaring often leads to infection and a continuous wound (won't heal) so it's not worth the risk...Mine were banded while flaring (large and hard) so have remained that way ever since (before the banding they used to just come and shrink back down on their own, which is why no one had any clue that CD was basically "developing" for me.

My surgeon -- who is now your surgeon! -- removed a couple small tags on two occassions. It was successful and I had no problems afterwards. It was a just a little uncomfortable for 3 - 4 days but that is to be expected and a 1/4 dose of percoset took care of it easily.

I am thinking the decision to remove tags depends on a few things -- size, location, inflammation, and others. I found Dr. O to be pretty conservative about treating Crohn's surgically so I trusted his judgement. For example, he said he would never drain an abscess in a CD patient in his office. He would always take you into the OR because there are complications and underlying disease factors in those with CD and he wants to check it all out when you are under anesthesia and treat you right. Thank God because when I got my first abscess I went to the ER and they tried to drain it -- that was very painful!!! Dr. O told me you can't treat CD people the same as non-CD people - we heal differently, have inflammatory problems that others don't have, and have a disease that effects tissue structures. He said surgery really is the last option for CD people. This just proves to me why it is sooooo important to get an experienced surgeon!

If I were you, I would schedule the procedure ASAP. I am concerned that things could be "brewing" and the faster you get it dealt with the better! For me, it was wonderful to finally know exactly what was going on in there and get it turned around! All you really have now is what your old surgeon told you, and it sounds to me like he didn't have the experience to be working on you. It may be that you wake up to find that all Dr. O had to do was clean things up a little -- so it will be minor to you but then you can start to heal properly. I totally understand not wanting to have yet another procedure!! But I guess after what I went through, I now firmly set my mind on positive thoughts that it is better to get it taken care of ASAP and get on the road to recovery!

I had mine removed during hemmie surgery (before I knew I had Crohn's), and they were back before the end of the week.  If you really want to do this, and your doctors approve, you can try it, but be prepared for it to not make much difference.

Fallcolors...you always give me hope! I am so thankful..that you told me about Dr. O...i am sure he is going to straighten me right up! I have already called his office...to set up an app for surgery..they said this is a two part process...so they are calling me back to schedule..but right now he is booked until Oct. busy man! We'll see what they say...its best for me to brave and move forward...everything the last surgeon did...just messed me up...i am sure that a seton...should not cause more inflammation..nor should it cause extremely painful spasms..of the spincter...or fissure...after fissure after fissure...or a scar that most likely goes all the way inside..yup i can still see it from the outside...or skin tags...they were never there before..now i am sure it was a good idea for him to shorten my fistula...everything he did..he never told me he was going to do...and it was all a big suprise at the end of surgery...i can't wait to figure out what is wrong..because i started bleeding again..and found another fissure that seems to be healing...so i am not so sure its infected but it seems its causing some type of infection underneath..which could be the hair follicles...either way...i don't plan on keeping it! Not too mention what a pain to clean...its crazy..my routine just to clean myself..is quite lengthy lol!  Fallcolors you must be right...the last surgeon was in over his head i believe

yup..i did schedule..i just am going to try to be brave...and i am going to write down my questions and make sure i ask him everything..still to me..the mushroom drain sounds way better than a seton..i couldn't even feel the seton...in the incision...except for when i got the rash...it was only the anus..part that was horrible...i recall having some type of mushroom drain with my first abscess and it only hurt coming out..but it was only in overnight...to help my largest abscess drain...it is a good thing its in October..hopefully by then i will have Remicade and i will heal up some fissures...and that will make me more comfortable for the surgery...its good to hear that less is more with Dr. O...i like the fact that he only cut you 1/4.....for your last abscess....it just confirms that this last surgeon..didn't really know what he was doing..cause i only had a small abscess..and he cut me like five inches..and that wasn't necessary at all...part of that incision isn't even healing..and i don't think it will! I just want to clarify...one thing...its not that i couldn't...handle the seton..i was allergic to the rubber...and i truly believe something was wrong with the second one...i haven't read any other posts on here where someone had that much pain in the anal area with a seton...
