I am so tired of being in so much pain.  I talked to my GI doc and he does not want me to take pain killers (this is the same guy who told me to suck it up I was military, usually he is an ok guy but ) but I am passing out from the pain if I do too much.  Like right now I am in so much pain I had to choose between going to get groceries or taking a shower.  I got stopped by the police today, I forgot to put the darn sticker on my tag.  I was in too much pain the day I got it to bend over and stick it on (I pretty much had to have my little bro drive me to the hospital that night).  The officer checked my tag, registation, and insurance out and knew that all my stuff was paid up and current.  I had just airheadly forgot to stick it on.  But he just had to add "there is no excuse for not having that taken care of."  I was already so embarrassed and hummilated as a former LEO myself for doing something so incredibly stupid.  I know there is no excuse, and I am embarrassed to admit how much of a hard time I am having taking care of myself.  I am going to see my primary care and my psych tomorrow.  I just hate how this disease is effecting my brain.

MMMNAVY, I'm so sorry you're in so much pain. It sounds like you really do need some help to manage it. Pain can certainly cause you to be very down on yourself. Pain management in my opinion is an integral part of surviving any chronic illness, especially crohn's. You need better quality of life. Can you not find a doctor who will care about the quality of life you have?

I hope your primary care physician will be more understanding and give you some pain killers to pull you through these tough times.

As for the expired tag, please try to be not so hard on yourself. If it makes you feel any better, last year, I was stopped for not having the sticker on. I just forgot to stick it on . . .oops. My husband was in the hospital, and I totally forgot about it - there was absolutely nothing wrong with me. It happens . . . no reason to beat yourself up. Also, I've been reading this book, which I think is helping me deal with this better. It's called "Everywhere you go there you are" by Jon Kabat-zinn. I of course, am just a reader, and I am not trying to sell this book or anything - if you local library has it, check it out, and see if it can help you get your brain in a better place.

I hope you find some relief soon.

I can't believe you can't get some sort of rx pain reliever. I'd definitely talk to your PCP and see if s/he would be able to get you some. I don't have much pain but for a few days per month, and even I am hoping to get something from my GI doc in a couple weeks.

Good luck at your appointments tomorrow.

Have the infusions etc not helped at all?

My gut feeling is that if you're finding things so hard at home, you should be in hospital. Is it possible to insist on being admitted, hon?

I don't blame you for feeling worn down. You've been in pain for too long.

i think there is something to this disease effecting the brain. i've been super down cried many nights and wished for no tomorrows. but tomorrow does come and i fight through the next day. i was taking old pain meds from when i had my teeth pulled for a couple of days so i could walk without the ouches at work. i felt "better" after i started on metronidazole. i cant afford the good stuff like infusions(insurance issues). i'm still experiencing all the flare horribleness down below. however it has eased up before and i have to hope that it will be better again. o how i used to take the little things for granted, like energy and peace of mind.

Aww Navy I am so sorry to hear you are suffering so. It really sounds as if you are not getting proper treatment. I do not understand why they can't get you some relief, and then not to give you pain meds. I do agree that you need to go see your family doctor or get a referral to a pain mgmt clinic. No one should have to suffer the way you are. Sending healing prayers your way.

Navy, I am sorry to hear of the pain you are suffering.

In the 2nd yr of my diognoses I was admitted to the hospital for inflammation. My Dr. had come in to see me after being admitted with an Intern. I also was in a lot of pain and had probably put off going to the Hospital a Little to long. After my DR left the room and was gone for about 15 minutes the Intern came back with the dietition to have a talk. This intern had the nerve to tell my wife and I that I needed to learn to live with the pain. It was the way he said it that basically meant suck it up and deal with it.
I actually felt sorry for him after my wife got done with him. She told him how I dealt with the pain for so long without complaining that always put me in the hospital because I "didn't want to be a burden". My biggest worry was I would sound like a cronic complainer if I bugged my DR. too much.
There are times that pain killers are needed no matter what the Dr. says. Insist on something to help your quality of life.

(((((((((((((((MMMNAVY))))))))))))))) wish I could give you a real hug but , all I can do is brackets . The suck it up approach only goes so far and it always sounds good to some s.o.b. that has never had to do it. I am lucky enough to have a doc that knows what its like and I do have pain med, I dont use them much, but they are there when its to much to bare with just a mind set. Tell you doc , if you kick him in the crotch one time, he may be able to suck it up and bare it but if you kick him in the crotch over and over, he will be reachin for the pain med. Bet that gets you a script....

I'm so sorry to hear about your pain lady, my GI and PCP wont give me pain meds either, the ER is the only ones that will give me a few to hold me over for the really bad times. I understand people have problems with addiction but we are in real serious pain, I hope a doctor listens to you and you have pain relief soon.

Navy, if you had been injured in combat and were suffering even 40% of the pain you have now, would your VA docs be more sympathetic? I think so.

It really is unfair and wrong to punish you by telling you to "suck it up", simply because you're ill instead of injured.

I know it's hard when you're feeling so rotten, but maybe you may need to be even more vocal about how much strife you're in? They need to HEAR you, and take some action to help you.

Wow..some people..i feel for you..i understand your fatigue and pain..i have been there as well..i know its hard..and for me having Lupus..its an issue..being so tired...only someone who is going through something like that would understand..having to choose...what you can do...and what must be put off...i bet those who say mean things..have never ever had a problem as bad as you have it...they have no clue...and to tell you to suck it up..well not to be negative..but that is so military like..the whole suck it up buttercup...you have to talk to someone outside of the military who can help you..that might be the only way..and in the meantime..forgive yourself for being human..and for being sick...as it is not your fault! hugs*

Hey Navy,
At Great Mistakes, the nurse chewed me out for taking an ambulance ride for a "sore throat". They, the EMT's, had only asked "what's hurts right now?"
Didn't want to take the ride either, but the Master Chief ordered me to...and I was only a recruit. THEN she took my temp...it was 106.1...she
THEN chewed be out for not getting there sooner. GO NAVY ;-)
This is just to illustrated, that sometimes when on base, not sure if it's in the water, though at Camp LeJune it may be, but common sense
and common courtesy goes out the window.
Can you see someone off base? My Pain doc works with the GI to find the best solutions.

presence of pain be routinely assessed for all patients.

The standards, which have been endorsed by the American Pain Society, underscore the
importance of effective pain management and establish it as an essential component of
quality patient care.

You need to recieve adquate pain management or your health care provider is being negligent IMHO.

I did finally get some pain management from my primary care (but it took my psych who is the former head of the VA hospital to get me taken care of), but they still cannot figure out what is causing my bone pain (which is become more of my primary problem). I do not understand why they were all the sudden so stingy (they usually are not) about pain meds other then there is a new ER head and maybe he was making a stink about me. Was there a new study that came out? I know some others on here that have problems getting pain meds.

My dad doesn't have a problem getting pain meds prescribed at the VA, however he does have to do urine tests to show he doesn't have more in his system then prescribed, and nothing in his system that isn't prescribed. It seems kind of wacky to treat everyone like they're an addict.

EDIT: My dad went to the pain management clinic, expecting them to help him in non-medicated ways (maybe something like massage, acupuncture, biofeedback, etc.). He was shocked when the only thing they offered was methadone. He declined, and is sticking to percocet.
