I have asked this question before, because I read somewhere that higher class people get the disease. I am in grad school in Europe. I wanted to get a PhD before, but I have lost interest and because this disease has to be managed better. I want to trade stock in the future though.

What do all of you guys do for a living? I remember there was at least one person here who was physician.

Currently wrapping up my summer gig as an entomologist for mosquito control. I have no idea what I'll do after that, but I'll probably be forced to take some crap retail job just for the insurance. But a bio-related job might come up, at least I hope it will.

I don't think Crohn's discriminates between class.

I worked for the U.S Postal service until my Crohn's became more severe. I'm now currently on SS Disability.

I'm a Chocolatier....its not as great as it sounds. If I was actually able to eat the chocolate it would be wonderful....darn you Crohns.

Just lost my job in cancer research due to a lack of funding...not too depressed over it, to be honest (they lied to me about how much funding they had when they interviewed me). I'm looking for other positions in medical research (preferably IBD research).

I have a Ph.D in Medical Sciences. Was diagnosed with Crohn's in grad school, and it most definitely contributed to the time it took me to complete my dissertation (having a rather unsympathetic advisor did not help).

I have been a cabinet builder for the past 23 yrs. When that slows down the company I work for sends me in the field to do construction work. I have been part of build quite a few hospitals and clinics.

Retail for 36yrs.
Plenty of physical activity.
lot's of not life threatening decisions.
Oh,and the health coverage.

There certainly is a link between Crohn's and race (i.e., higher incidence among Caucasians and especially Ashke**** Jews), but I am unaware of one between Crohn's and class, unless they are able to confirm a link between it and diet. Alternatively, it could be that there is a perceived link because higher classes are more likely to seek treatment and receive diagnoses than lower classes who cannot afford to go through the process of seeing specialists, being tested, etc.

Anyway, I am a 2nd year PhD student, keeping my fingers crossed that this disease does not slow down my finishing this degree (2 1/2 years left!). I'm in the social sciences and plan to work either in academia or industry as a researcher when I'm done.

Im a newly minted lawyer. I think the crohns and class link might have to do w/ our immune systems. Hypothetically, the very poor tend to live in less hygenic conditions. They are exposed to more germs and develop more refined immunes systems. (Like how people and Mexico don't get sick from the water but US tourists do.) People in 1st world countries that live in decent housing conditions and go to decent schools are exposed to less germs. Maybe if our potentially overactive immune systems had something to fight than it would stop attacking the intestines. That is what is behind the worm theory at least.

I am a Software Engineer by education, but I hated it by the time I finished up my degree. Lucky for me, I never had to work at it except as my co-op. I worked in the wholesale gift industry for 20 years part-time while raising 2 daughters and now I'm watching a friends kids a few days a week while I decide what I want to be when I grow up. Maybe what I want to be when I grow up is retired!

Oh and I should add, my Mom who also had CD was the daughter of a doctor and was a secretary, so certainly middle class America. Not sure what that says about your class theory.

The least appreciated/respected "job" in the world...a housewife, but hey my kids have great manners, one has graduated from high school with 7 more credits than she needed to graduate and my son is well on his way too, he's in grade 11...my house is spotless, my family is fed everyday (and healthy food)...before having my kids I used to work with kids and also worked as a secretary for a pipe company (not tobacco pipes, underground pipes), pretty dull but I'm not complaining, I see how SOME (not all) other kids are "raised" when both parents are working (I know not everyone can afford to have one parent at home (often cuz of economy) and that's a shame in itself, so I'm not bashing)...bottom line, pretty dull eh.

Where did you work? My brother traded euribor but quit. I hope to get a temporary job as soon as I am healthy. I wish Bank of America had some offices for trading here.
