Cimzia and the Flu Vaccine?

Hello to my Fellow Crohnies, can anyone help answer this question for me? Since I am on Cimzia is it safe to have a flu vaccine since the flu vaccine contains live material? The warning on the packaging of the Cimzia does say not to have live viral vaccines; however, I really find myself between a rock and a hard place because the last thing I want is to contract any strains of the flu in our already contaminated environment.

Thank you all for your input. I am sure that we are all at risk since we are all immune compromised this flu season.

I'm on Humira (similar to Cimzia) and my dr said the shot was ok cuz it doesn't have the live virus. He said the nasal one is the one with the live virus. He suggested I get a flu shot so I'm getting it the end of the month.

tamsprote96 is correct. The shots are okay as they are not a live virus. We cannot have the mist though as those contain a live virus. Good luck!

Yeap my GI told me the same thing. We can have the shot as it isn't live.  We can not have the nasual as its live.  But I heard the nasual is only available to children anyway. I just don't know the age cut off.   I get sick every time I get the flu shot so none for me this year.

I am on Cimzia and had the flu shot about a month ago. No problems with it at all. The shot does not have any live virus in it. We cannot take the nasal vaccine. The age cut off for that nasal one is 49. I am a teacher and am exposed to coughing, sneezing kids all day long. One student in class just had the H1N1 virus and they had to "sanitize" the classroom. I am waiting very impatiently for that shot vaccine to come out.

The nasal H1N1 vaccine is not just for kids...they are also using it for health care workers right now.  I had the regular flu shot the first week of September and started Cimzia the next week and haven't had any problems.  My husband just learned last night that one of his coworkers has the swine flu so I'm just waiting to see if he gets it.  We keep taking our temperatures to try to catch it early!

No..you can not get a live virus..but the flu shot is not live..the spray under the nose is
