morphine for abdominal pain? ..also, STILL testing positive for salmonella!

does anyone take this for their pains? i have never taken it but not quite sure vicodin agrees with me so well. my gi said he prefers to prescribe morphine for pain but i am a bit leery about taking it. but yesterday i took 1/2 a vicodin for upper abdominal pain and then about 1/2 about an hour later. one thing i noticed was the headache i was fighting got worse and i felt a bit nauseous. i took vicodin before and don't remember it having any adverse reactions with me. i tolerate percocet well but it seemed too strong for the pains i am having at the moment. suppose i could takes 1/2's. anyway! any morphine feedback would be great :)

and i am STILL testing positive for salmonella i got back in march even after 2 courses of cipro (one was shortened due to a possible adverse reaction). during those stool studies my gi also checked my inflammation level? he said anything over 113 showed inflammation was going on and mine was at 288. not sure what that test or name of the levels were called but i thought that was interesting. also did the tmpt blood test and the 6mp is nearing toxic levels to my liver yet is barely in the therapeutic zone. soooo ...our course of action is: now trying 10 days of bactrim ds. next week i go for an ultrasound of my gallbladder. then retest for salmonella. we are sticking with the 75mgs of 6mp. and then if my gallbladder looks ok we are most likely going to have to do another scope. i hate the waiting game :/ well, i guess the best thing of all of this is, i really trust my new gi. he is wonderful and i feel like i am good hands for once :)

I can't take morphine any more because I have developed an allergy to it. But I have only had it in the hospital over the many years with this DD. I have had vicodin and percocet, though at this point I can't take percocet any more either. So I'm not much help in that area.

As for the 6MP. My toxic levels were sky high while my therapeutic levels were really low. But I seemed to be doing well so my doctors didn't want to take me off entirely. The compromise was to lower my level. I had been at 100mg, I am now at 50mg. My toxic levels are fine now, while my therapeutic levels are still not where we would like them to be. But it seems to be doing something. So I guess the main thing is to trust how you feel to some extent.

I've only had morphine while in the hospital. I wouldn't want to take it regularly because I cannot keep my freakin' eyes open while on it. Percocet and Vicodin never zonked me out like morphine did.

EDIT: A whole vicodin pill did very little for me, but I always broke the Percocet in half because I didn't need the full strength. I'd keep doing that if it's working for you.

Hmm, my doctor cautioned against crushing or breaking in half any opium based painkillers because he said that without the coating, it can cause more rapid absorption, which can give you a "high" and lead you to addiction. I don't know how true this this, but I used to take vicodin for back pain, and my doc always told me to take the whole pill, and never to break it in half, and to call if I needed a lower dosage, rather than break the vicodin in half.

So, please check with your doctor before crushing or breaking any opium based pain killers.

thanks everyone! it seems morphine is pretty intense, i am not sure i quite need something of that magnitude. my nausea continues but i have a feeling it's related to the high dose of bactrim. we'll see next time i take vicodin if it increases or how i react i guess.

wow, yeah it really seems like too much for me. i might go back to percocet if the nausea continues after the course of bactrim. thanks for the input!
