Hi all, rang my doc earlier to see if im able to get the shot and have been given the go ahead getting it done tomorrow.He said all people with crohns should be given it if they want it just thought i'd let you know Bev x

I have to go get my B12 shot this Thursday, so hoping I can get mine then too.

I got mine yesterday and all seems fine as regards side effects etc.   They did say I may have to get a second injection in about 2 to 3 weeks, but will let me know.

Wow, how are you guys getting the shot already. I'm pregnant and have Crohn's, but I can't get the shot anywhere around here. My county and my doc only have the mist.

I am in the San Diego area, Inflamed. My doctors have had it for a few weeks, but weren't giving it to anyone except kids and pregnant ladies first. I am hoping by this week I will be on the available list. Its been 2 weeks since I last asked about it, and in the news they said we just got another large shipment to San Diego doctor offices. Good luck!

Gail -- I'm in suburban Chicago. In the last hour my county reported having it. I still can't get through the phone line to get an appointment. They had some 2 weeks ago, but the appointments filled in hours when I was at work and couldn't call.

I just changed primary care doctors. Went in for a meet and greet last week. She was all set to give me the shot, but when she went to get it, their supplies were too low. Its a family practice and they had to reserve what they had for the sickest of kids. I guess its a bit hit or miss still as far as where its available. We have had a few towns locally running clinics, but they are limiting it to residents only. I'm still waiting and hoping that I don't sick before I can get the vaccine. My daughter lives in a dorm and all of her neighbors have had some flu, some have had to go to the hospital. Luckily, she has a private room, and she's a germ-a-phobe, but we're both praying we don't get it. And counting the days until we can get the vaccine.

Just to add my 2 bits to this.... I have decided that I am not going to get the H1N1 shot. I am personally on the fence with it all.
I have heard that some people in my area [Northern Alberta, Canada] have been getting ill from the shot.
I don't want to risk it.
I feel there hasn't been enough research done on the whole thing!
Everyone is in such a panic over it all! It's been crazy here! People fighting and its just been a messy situation overall.

there are always going to be NEW strains of diseases out there....
I say let them give my shot to someone like a young child who really really needs it.
On the news last nite apparently "someone" gave orders that a hockey team could have the shot
when there are very sick people out there that need it more than others.
That's were I draw the line!! That's ridiculous! And this is just the beginning!

I am waiting to get my flu shot, as I do get that yearly and it works well for me.

Hey there RIDER FAN!! so far you are the only CANADIAN that i know of on this site.

I won't be getting this. I have alot of suspicion that immunizations are tied in with Crohn's disease in some way, at least in my case I think they are.

Ever seen how they make these things? They are grown (alive) inside of a chicken egg for several months...

Not trying to scare anyone, just trying to get you guys to look into it is all, do some research.

I don't seem to EVER get normal sick with colds or flu, or any of that stuff, even on high doses of Imuran, so I am just not worried about it anymore.

I live in Ireland, and they set up clinics.  The first people to get the H1N1 are the high risk groups i.e. people with long term illness, and also pregnant women.  They will then go on to give it to health care workers and then the general public.

Hi all:

It's been a while. My gson had his H1N1 shot and his regular FLU shot at the same time. That was a week ago yesterday (Wed). By Saturday night he had a mouth full of huge ulcer, and Sunday brought on the diahrea with blood. By yesterday he was nauseated..... today throwing up on the way to see his specialist who is one and a half hours from his home. He is still in the city so I don't know if his doctor has given him a prescription or hospitialized him.... should know by 7 pm tonight.

Worrywart Nana I am sorry to hear about your grandsons reaction. I have heard, not sure how true it is, but that you are not to take both injections at the same time, and that they are to be spaced a few weeks apart. Maybe thats why he had problems. Also, do you know if he is allergic to eggs, thats another reason you could get a reaction.

Homeboy, there are vaccines available without the Thimersol. The H1N1 vaccine is made the same way the seasonal flu vaccine is, its just a different strain.

I had hoped to get one yesterday, but they are still only giving them to children under 18 and pregnant women.

Happy to say I'm getting my vax tomorrow. My daughter too. Had to wait on hold forever to get an appointment, but because I am pregnant and she's a toddler we should be getting the thimersol free one.

I'll be so relieved to have it. A coworker actually came into the office yesterday after being dxed with H1N1 on Sunday. Seemed too soon for me, he was coughing still. He doesn't know I'm pregnant, so he may have been offended when I literally ran the other way when I found out he'd had it. Oh well, better safe ...

I was sitting on the fence too, but after done some thinking, I found out that if i don't take the vaccination, I could be the one that is giving the virus to a kid or another person in a risk group.

so- now I have got the flu vaccine and it did no harm to me at all. /Bee

I just got my vaccination yesterday and have had no side effects from it. I work for one of the Health Depts down here in Florida and they offered it to all of us. You also have to space the regular seasonal Flu vaccine 30 days apart from the H1N1 vaccine. There has also been alot of research done on the H1N1, most doctors are even saying more so then the seasonal flu vaccine since that changes every year because of virus mutations.

I was surprised my doc had it, as I had heard it has been really scarce. I got it yesterday (got the seasonal flu over a month ago), one less worry...

I know my body over-reacts to immunizations, but the alternative is much worse, cuz when I get sick, even before the immunosuppresants (long term steroid and biologic use), I get SICK...Like trips to hospital with temps over 103 (quite a few times at 106)...

JMHO, I'm one of those people who do believe immunizations do work...I worked as a microbiologist for a while in concert with the Epidemiologists, so it has given me a different perspective...There is always risk in everything, even walking out your front door, it's just a matter of cost/benefit ratio. For me, getting the vaccine outweighed the risk, again, JMHO...

I got mine today at work. Waited in line for an hour. It reminded me of waiting in line for concert tickets for Genesis in the 80's. Funny thing - I was just as happy to get the shot as the Genesis tickets. What is wrong w/ me ****?

Hi Nanners: Gson is doing much better. Specialist put him back on 40 mg Prednisone and upped his Imuran. He has a mild case of the flu but it is settling down already. Yes, they probably should have spaced his 2 shots and with him having taken his Humira shot just the day before, that all probably added to him suddening flaring with the mouth ulcers etc.

Have you heard from On the Can? Hope she is doing okay.

I thought I heard that was the case if you were going to get the nasal spray form, and the regular flu shot. That those should be spaced. But that if they could have they would have just had both shots made as one, but it was a time issue? Not sure.

I'm losing hope that I'll be able to get one. The clinics they are holding start giving out wrist bands at 7 am. Which just means people start lining up at 5:30-6am. My guts never do well that early in the morning. Nor do I want to stand in line that early out in the cold. Just to hope and get a wrist band! They had a clinic today and all 1600 wrist bands went VERY fast. It's crazy.

I was seriously on the fence about getting the vaccine, and by the last week in Oct decided after talking to the Remicade clinic (I start treatments in a few weeks) that, yes, we should get it. But decided that it was going to be all of us get it (me, hubby and kids) or none of us get it. That following weekend we got sick with what I believe is the flu (I'm still sick with it), everyone around us had it, and we were all exposed to it from several different sources, it was inevitable I suppose. So I have since decided that we will not be getting the vaccine, not that there are any clinics around here offering it right now anyway due to vaccine shortages.

Hi all! I'm Tony's wife Marcie posting for him (he's @ work). We've been going back and forth on whether to have Tony vacc. Our county health dept. has some now and are scheduling appts for high risk people (our kids get theirs on the 17th) so I called 'em to ask about someone like my husband. Told 'em he's on 40mg Humira shots q2wks and all about his Crohns. They put me on hold for a few to discuss it with a "head honcho" down there who told them to tell me that the vaccine uses a person's immune system (some way) to protect them against the virus and since his immune system was compromised b/c of the Humira they would not recommend he get unless his GI feels strongly that he should! (FYI they have the shot not mist so it wouldn;t be live virus) Of course I've tried to get ahold of his doc and PA and haven't heard back. They're gonna run out if we don't make him and appt. soon!! BTW: my 12yr old nephew was given a diagnosis of "suspected Swine Flu" at the ER on fri!
