i've been diagnosed this year. i think i'm having my first flare-up. ive never been told what to do when this happens and its the weekend and i cant call my dr. should i go to the er or just ride it out?

A call like that needs a lot more detail about how severe your flare is. What meds are you on? Is there blood? Pain? Where? Nausea? Vomiting? Any more detail would be a good idea.

sorry. im having horrible abdominal pain, blood in stool, fever. this is the first time i've ever had blood in stool, and the pain has never been this severe. i'm currently taking 6mp & entocort ec.

If the pain was me and the pain was *severe* and I couldn't get in contact with my doc, I would go to the ER.

I hope you get this under control real soon. Let us know what happens.

Stay hydrated sweetie!! And agreed severe pain = ER, just to make sure, best of luck through the flare. Keep us updated!

The way I see it is if I'm in a condition where I start questioning whether or not I should go to hospital then that usually means I should! Better safe than sorry, even if it ends up not being an emergency they can often make you a bit more comfortable.

Did you get to the ER or call your doctor?? Sounds like you need to go. At the very least, they need to give you something for pain and fever.

Crohn's and UC are chronic diseases. They need nurse educators for these diseases. I had no idea what to expect either and don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found this forum! They have nurse educators for other chronic diseases such as diabetes. And certainly, if you get plastic surgery, you have a nurse to help you out there. Yet nothing for us...

sooo..i didn't go to the er. i do feel alot better today. i have realized, after reading lots of posts on this site, that i know very little about this disease. i think i've been in "flare-up mode" for a long time. i don't think i've been in remission yet. i think i just had a pretty bad couple of days. i need to do much more research. obviously my doc isn't very helpful
