washing your clothes after a poopie accident

ok so how do you deal with it when you have poopie accidents with clothes.

Generally I do throw away my underwear.

but how to save pants.

generally I dump as much as I can in the toliet

rinse in the sink

dump liquid soap rinse again

then take to wash in laundry

use tide mtn spring

use bounty april fresh

in cold water

then rewash same way in hot water

use bounce in the dryer

My lovely bride gets to deal with that. btw do you get that yellow color that stains everything including your skin?

wow AzJohnny thats what I call true love - what a trooper your wife is :)
I wish my husband would do that for me but alas I rinse pants out under the backyard tap - making sure the Labrador stays well away - then take them to the laundry to soak in a bucket with liquid in it then throw them in the next wash. I figure the less I have to handle/look/smell them the better :)

Antibacterial nappy (diaper?) soak might help, if your clothing will tolerate being soaked.

Another thing you might like to try doing is putting a cup or more of vinegar in the final rinse. It's said to be antibacterial and will freshen clothing and get rid of a lot of smell and discolouration and residue.

Another suggestion is maybe making a transition to skirts. It can be easier to get to the toilet in skirts, leading to less mess, and skirts can be easier to launder.

 I always put a pair of like yoga pants and a pair of undies in my big purse .... and a plastic bag...to CONCEAL! Even a ziplock. And also carry baby wipes. If worse comes to worse, I seal and recloth! Because sometimes your in a bathroom where's there's a line and you don't have much time ...ya know? Then when I get home I have a sink in the laundry room and I buy extra hydrogen peroxide and just keep it in there...(it's cheap) also takes out blood, which sometimes happens. Then to the washer. But, if undies are really bad...I pitch them. Kinda feels good sometimes to pitch and then I just feel like I deserve a pretty new pair!:)

THANKS for that hydrogen peroxide tip!!! And the vinegar tip as well. I prefer to at least try to save my underwear and these two tips might help, 'cause I've thrown a few away.

Shout gets everything out, even blood, chocolate, strawberry juice, pomegranite, the black residue out of the tailpipe on your car. My 2 year old hasn't found anything that it won't work on. For really bad stains I spray it on and then toss it in the hamper and respray before I put it in the washer, all of the other stuff I will let sit in the hamper all week then just spray it as I toss it in, Just make sure the fabric is wet all the way through with the shout and you should never have to replace another pair of undies or pants.

I have used the vinegar and peroxide myself.  I cut my arm once and it bleed onto one of my blouses for work, co worker gave me the tip about the peroxide and sure enough it took the blood out no prob, and that was hours after I cut myself.  The vinegar works well to remove that odor.  The Shout for me has been hit or miss.  I have thrown out the undies too.

..... neither hv i C2 ...cant afford to keep throwing panties out for sure...ty for the tips on peroxide n vinegar..willing to gv them a shot...cait has very heavy flow during menstral cycle so that would help there too..take care..lyn...lmbo only here can we ask theses questions eh......smilewinkgrin

I did not realize that so many of us are dealing with the same problems. I will try some of the suggestions. Until just now....I have felt alone.I have been wearing white underwear and using white sheets.I also must admit that I throw many clothes and sheets away. Something I can't really afford!!

Had my first night time incident this week. Yuck.

I use cloth diapers on my daughter and have learned to use the same routine for this:

Rinse out immediately with cold water -- they actually make sprayers to attach to the toilet that can be awesome for this and gentle cleansing for you

Wash:
Cold (until no mark)
then HOT with soap too
then dry

I threw my underpants away...I rinsed my pants in the bathtub with hot water, got most of the water out so I wouldn't drip on the way to the laundry room, and made sure they got washed by themselves on a long setting. I wasn't sure if I would even keep them, but I know a good wash makes it as good as new, and it's so hard to get rid of comfortable pants.

I agree it is so good to know that others deal with the same issues. I buy cheap pack of panties through Hane's catalog and and thrown out many. Always were were a long pad and keep baby wipes in my purse. White sheets, undergarments and bleach are great things!

the windchill was in the negatives when this happened and frankly I could not strip fast enough out of my snow pants and boots
I did use shout, vingar, and hydro too and just cannot get the smell (yes it did get the blood/liquid poo out) it out...now trying bottle of febreez...and antibac dawn...anyone try borax?
maybe time to buy a new pair...

Borax might be a good idea. My former mother in law suggested boxes of baking soda. I know it kills oder in kitty boxes.!! God bless her 85 years of laundrey!

FYI, when we were dealing with mildew-smelling fabrics after the Katrina flooding (and believe me, the entire city smelled like that!), the only thing that was effective for getting out the smell was Tide with Febreeze. Once you've peroxided and done whatever you're going to do for the stain, I really recommend Tide with Febreeze for getting rid of the smell completely.

My cat peed in my car and really (really!) stunk it up. I used some enzyme cleaner which really seemed to work. If there's something similar for humans, I'd try that.

Hey Navy...been there done that! One of the few perils of snowy living that I actually do not like.
I too live for Shout (between my husband dribbling chicken French sauce on his shirts and my ooopsies, we should own stock) I usually hose my stuff down in our shower with the hand held sprayer, then SOAK with Shout spray bottle, then I use the shout gel with the scrubby tip. Then i wash in Tide...it's the best at getting stuff "unsmelly". i have to do all my clothes separately as Tide bothers hubby's skin.
Also, the best thing for anti smell....Arm & Hammer carpet cleaner for Pets. Seriously...wet the garment and sprinkle on the stuff. let it sit for a day with the pasty concoction on it. Then rinse THOROUGHLY, rinse again then wash in the machine. I have used this for accidents, greasy smelly food spills. When I first moved into my house, the laundry room stunk like wet dog. it turns out they kep the dog in here after he played outside. The 2x4s stunk and it would not go away. I sprinkled this stuff on the studs and left for a day then vacuumed...no more smell. Since then, if it stinks it gets Arm& Hammer pet carpet cleaner powder!
