Life Insurance

I've just tried to up my policy through my husband's benefit plan at work and have been denied additional coverage.  The policy the company offers is a little more than the cost of cremation and would in no way cover anything else for my husband in the event of my death.  Looking for outside term life private policy.  Suggestions?  I'm sure it will cost me through the wazooo...all puns intended!

I have tried to apply for life insurance outside of my work and was turned down becuz of the Crohns. I think you will have a hard time and like you said, if you do find it I am sure it will be really expensive. We have missed you Broom!

It is not impossible but pretty darn near impossible for someone with Crohn's to find affordable life insurance. My brother in law is an agent for a major firm and he tried everything he could and was not able to find something for me. The one place that we did find was of all places our credit union. I had no idea until my father nearly passed away and was hospitalized for a long time and his credit union actually paid him insurance money for every day that he was in the hospital and let him know that every member has the right to a policy. As a member you can also buy a bigger policy without a dr visit and insurance on your loans that would cover them in the event of your death or your spouse's death. I looked a little more into it because I am member of that same credit union and another credit union and found out that both had similar offers. It is not a huge life insurance policy but it some coverage as well as loan protection for a small cost. You may want to check in your area and see if you have any that offer something similar.

I was able to purchase a large life insurance policy even after my diagnosis with Crohn's because, at the time I applied, I was not on any mediations and was controlling my symptoms with SCD alone. I tried to add a second life insurance policy recently and was denied by over 70 different companies because I was taking medications for Crohn's and also medications for depression. This was all me purchasing on the open market. I think the best way is to just get it through your employer and wait for things to quiet down.

I'm also in Canada and have a life insurance policy through work, no problems.
