azathioprine 50mg plus pred

I just saw my gi and I was on entocort, but I started having really bad flare in my throat and canker sores and leasions on my tongue, he now started me on azathioprine and pred. has anybody had any luck with the azathioprine 50mg's  

cd for 39 years 4 surgeries

50mg is likely just the initial ramping-up dose. Your GI will probably raise it to 100mg or higher.

You need to give Imuran awhile to work, it can take a few months to start doing something for you. Most likely that is what the prednisone is for, it works really fast.

I like Imuran, I think it is a good medicine.

as the others said, usually when you start imuran since it takes awhile to work you start on a low dose and work your way up. I started at 50, when went up to 100 and now stay at 150mg and the prednisone as others said is to sort of get you under control and keep you in check until the imuran can start taking effect (usually a couple months up to 6 months it can take to work in most cases). For me the two together have always worked wonders at controlling my flares and such.

I'm on 100mg imuran and 25 mg pred tapering down... I've had no negative effects from the imuran so far and am hoping it stays that way! Well either than the hair loss but I can live with that... Hopefully it keeps me in remission when I am finally off the 'roids. I'll keep you updated

I was started on 100mg (two 50s) in October and the dosage remains unchanged.  Recently reduced blood test to monthly.

My GI told me the imuran makes the prednisone more effective. ?

Imuran is a very good medication in helping you to reach remission and stay there. We have folks on this very forum who have been on this med or the sister med 6mp for 10 years or more. Good luck!

WOW!!! does everybody have excess energy with pred, almost to much, I have high energy anyway, does it ease up? 2nd day 50mg 3x imuran 20 mg pred. feels like I've taken acouple of speeders.

Yes most of us to get a surge of energy on Pred. Enjoy it while it lasts.
