Hi
I was diagnosed with CD in March 2008 and have been on Pentasa, Pred and now Azathioprine (which does very little for me except dropping my neutrophil count to 0.2!) I started as a private patient and felt well looked after but had to move to NHS about
18 months ago, and haven't i noticed the difference even though its the same consultant. I have not reached remission as yet but trying to remain positive.
Woke up on Saturday 2:00 AM in a lot of discomfort and spent the next 2 hours chained to the toilet passing mostly liquids. Since then i haven't slept only had the odd bit of toast and am really struggling to take in any water. Saw my GP today who took some bloods and asked for a stool sample and pretty much fobbed me off, didn't even give me a doctors note, said i could self-certify which is all well and good but i don't get paid that way. I just don't feel right in myself i've been confused and so lethargic and i've lost 1/2 a stone in that time but my GP just wasn't worried. Just debating whether to take myself down to A&E/primary care or not?
Any thoughts?

Are you seeing a gastroenterologist in a hospital?mine always says to phone if theres a problem and you can make an urgent appointment with him/her. Also at my hospital there is an IBD nurse maybe you could contact them. Best wishes anyway.

I do have a gastro but he's not very available, i had 10 appointments at the hospital last year and only saw the man himself twice all the other times i saw a junior who had no knowledge of crohn's or my history. I have tried calling his office but his secretary is always less than helpful and says she will leave a message in his paperwork. Unfortunately there is no IBD nurse at my hospital either, wish there was my mum is a Crohnie too and her nurse is always so helpful to her.

When I start feeling a bit foggy after not being able to take in food or liquids and spending so much time in the bathroom it usually means that my electrolytes are off. You might be getting dehydrated too. I think you should head to the ER. Usually when we start wondering if we should go, its because we KNOW we should go, but don't really want to go.
The other option is to try to force some liquids in and see how you feel in a bit, but I would try for something more than just water. Something like pedialyte or gatorade.

I agree with Zanne, if you are feeling so bad and getting no help from the doctors I would go to the ER. I agree you are more than likely getting dehydrated and some IV fluids and rest might be a good idea for you. Hugs!

Thanks guys, Zanne i think you hit the nail on the head I'm just putting off the inevitable off because i don't want to go in. Its just hard sometimes trying to judge how well i should be feeling and knowing when some things not right, i feel it in my gut in more ways than one :)

Please do let us know what happened, and how you're feeling, when you get home, c_azzy.
Best wishes,
Ivy.
