Definitely contact the VA social services, there has to be some sort of program that will assist you. If not maybe they can refer you to some other org. that offers help through a church or volunteer group. Keep you spirits up and keep looking -- you are a smart & resourcefull girl I know you'll find the assistance you need.

Hi Navy,

I don't think hospitals can release you if you are unable to care for yourself. They make arrangements for a stay in a nursing/re-habilitation center. After that, it depends on what your insurance covers. Most provide in-home nurse or aid visits for some time. I agree with what the others suggested -- call the hospital social services/patient advocate and see what they can help you with.

I pray the surgery really helps you, and you end up with more post-op help than you need!

Contact the "Discharge" person/department at the hospital. They should be able to set up prior arrangements for you on a local basis and the doctor could possibly order an in home health care nurse to come in at least a few hours of the day. Social Services is a good idea as well but you probably would need to fill out a bunch of paperwork for eligibility prior to going in to the hospital. Call your local health department as well. Wish you were close by...I hate that you are in this position!
