Update and question

Please let me know if I should put this in another forum..I had started posting in this one and not sure where to go now..

First thing that happened was the doctor didn't return any phone calls. Then today they called to reschedule the push pill endoscopy - it will be done next Tuesday. In the meantime I am just hanging and admittedly aggravated because I have not been able to leave the house or go to work since Jan 7. Husband was just as aggravated and called the head of digestive disease. He called tonight and gave a slightly better explanation but I need help from all of you.

He first wants us to get our water tested because we live in the middle of a cornfield. He also is thinking about post viral motility? since my husband and i were sick with a stomach flu before all of this started. He is tossing around crohn's due to family history and past gi problems but said I have to be sick for six months before he can diagnose crohn's...he also said the first doctor muddied the waters by giving me medications and bowel preps at the same time...In some ways I am more confused..him mentioning other ideas was somewhat nice..but he did say he wouldn't treat now until after the test next tuesday.

I also have an appointment at another hospital for a second opinion..

Any thoughts... or does this sound familiar to anyone.. again thank you for your help with this...i really appreciate it.

I actually think that you may have found a really good and thorough doctor. Of course it is so hard being patient and not having answers but it sounds like your doctor is really willing to think outside the box and not make the same mistakes that your previous one did. I know that this may sound odd, but I pray that they are able to find a connection to your water and your symptoms. To have a chance at your illness being caused by an outside source and not Crohn's means that there is a likelyhood of a cure for you. Many of us are struggling everyday to control our disease and symptoms with the hope that maybe we can achieve remission or something close to it. You may have the opportunity of receiving a full recovery with no side effects and you have to hold out hope. If he wants to wait another week to make sure that there is not the slightest chance that it is not Crohn's, I would take him up on it. If you do have this dreaded disease, what is one more week to wait and see if they can't help you? In the meantime, make sure that they help treat your symptoms to atleast give you the much needed relief that you are seeking. There is no reason that they can't prescribe something for the pain, nausea, or loose bowels. One last thing, you must have an incredible husband that really loves you. As a man and husband it really is cool to see someone stick up and fight for his wife. There is nothing wrong with getting a better explaination and it is great that you husband took the time to call the head of digestive disease to get some answers. You just may end up with a Crohn's diagnosis and it will be huge benefit to have him in your corner when times get tough. Hang in there and stay positive.

Thank you. I am hoping too. But even he said, he will not treat my symptoms until after the test on Tuesday. He said that is what the first doctor did wrong which is why the tests were inconclusive. So he wants me to just try and make it.. which I can.. just can't leave the house. I have done it this long...
I do have an incredible husband. 8 years ago, we lost our child and I was in a coma for two weeks. I would not have made it through without him, Our child died at birth and a very rare event occurred within my own body ,I needed emergency surgery..took two years to recover from all the trauma and than in 2007 I needed another surgery.. my health, like I am sure all of you , has been a minefield. He feels even if its crohns, we can handle it. He is my rock and I love him dearly.
I am still going to to stick with the second opinion though, it was nice he called.. but his aggravation at us is unwarranted. I will let them finish up but I have heard really good things about this other hospital , one fact is that they are more hands on, caring more about the patient.

I agree that it seems strange to say you have to wait at least 6 mos to be diagnosed with Crohns. From the beginning of symptoms to diagnosis was only 3 weeks for me. I am glad that you are getting a second opinion, I think in your case thats good. I do agree that you current doctor is thinking outside the box, but I still don't agree with his 6 mos waiting thoughts. Good luck and keep us posted on what your tests show. Hugs!

yeah.. I thought six months was odd too... which is the main reason I am keeping the second opinion. I am wondering if he is just trying to cya because it was one of his underlings?? are they embarrassed? I scheduled the water test... and will wait for the test next tuesday..

I had an inordinate amount of stress at work in september and october, family crisis in november and december and then I got sick..
I think there is much at play here...
