Sinus Infections and Remicade

I have been on Remicade now for almost two years, it seems like now I'm getting more and more sinus infections, for example, had one in nov, jan and now. Is this something that we just have to live with while we are on Remicade or should I see an ENT. I've tried the Netipot, Saline Nose Spray, Nasocort (steriod nose spray) and none of it seems to be helping any, the only thing that helps for a short time is using Cipro to make it go away for a few weeks or so, I can't keep doing this forever!

Sinus infections are one of the problems that the anti-TNF meds can cause. If you haven't seen an ENT it might be worth your while. There have been people that had to stop Remicade because of the sinus problems. Sorry you are having to deal with this.

I agree with Ides - see an ENT.

Are your sinus infections primarily on one side or are they bilateral?

I used to get many of them until my gi suggested I take a zyrtec every night. I just got my first in over a year, a couple of weeks ago. My pcp was closed so I went to a redi-med and the dr. suggested Mucinex D. Wow! It works soooo well! Within an hour of taking it, my eye was running so bad and everything opened up and cleared out! Then just this pat Mon. I had a horrible sinus headache all day, went to bed Mon. night and woke up wih it Tues morning. I took a Mucinex D Tues morning and my headache was gone within an hour. Now I tell everyone who has sinus problems to try it. I have been on remicade for 5 1/2 years now.

I find this really strange. I actually had bad allergies (hayfever, etc) all my life. Once I started my Remicade years ago; I found that my allergies seemed to reduce in intensity. Maybe just coincidence, but interesting none-the-less.

I was on Remicade for 5 years, and that was one of the reasons that I had to go off of it. It first started out that about every 3 months I was getting sick with a chest and head cold... then it was almost every time that I had remicade that I had sinus/head & chest colds with chronic coughing.

Thanks for all of the replies, I'm going to talk to my GI next week and probably go see an ENT to try to get this under control! Remicade is my lifesaver for sure and even tho I get these frequent sinus infections ect, the benefits out way the risks. Hopefully the ENT can help me to be able to live with this! I had a polup removed when I was 14, I've always had allergy problems and use to get allergy shots once a week, went to an allergist a few years back and had allergy testing again to get back on the shots and he said he didn't think my allergies were bad enough anymore. Oh well!! :)

I'm on humira and get sinus infections all the time. I started using a Netipot and that has helped keep me from having them as often.
