HI, I am wondering if any female is going thru menopause along with the crohns. Im on Humira which has its own side affects. Ive been very frustraited latly working out seems to help alittle but when I dont feel good thats not an option. I thought of hrt but then there is more terriable side effects. I thought about xanax but that can be addicting. I dont believe its stress just frustrated for really no reason. I mean Ive been blessed things could be alot worse. Any ideas anyone?

I'm not quite technically at menopause, but I don't have cycles and haven't in years (I'm 41). I take the bcp for the hormones since I've got osteoporosis. Maybe you should talk to your ObG about this? I don't know too much about the subject, but I know that I had a lot of "issues" (including horrible night sweats and hot flashes) disappear since I've got back on the pill.

I had a surgical menopause (hysterectomy) and now take Estrace nightly to avoid all those symptoms.

The disease itself can cause me to be quite anxious and pissy for a lack of better words. I suffer with anxiety related to my Crohns and use Xanax myself, I only use it on those bad times. I only use it maybe 3-4 times a month. Hope that helps a little.

When my doc recommended pregnenalone, DHEA and progesterone cream, I experienced a huge improvement. To promote recuperative sleep, L-tryptophan was advised. Once I could sleep 6-7 hours straight, my overall health and energy improved. I have never heard of a med that will eliminate all symptoms. There's nothing like a good night's sleep to eliminate the need for anti-depressants.

Welcome to my world...why do you think I'm called Broomhilda! Follow my posts lately because most of them are related to this very issue. I agree with the good night's sleep and afternoon power nap as well. I do take Lexapro (antidepresant) an hour before bed to help shut me down. Had to give up heavy exercise because of my Fibromyalgia, however, walking outside and gentle yoga stretches help me sleep better too. On my worse nights if I can't get to sleep after warm bath, low lights, no tv, no computer, reading boring things...I'll take melatonin. It's your natural sleep hormone trigger and available over the counter. Start with a lower dosage if you want to try it and build up to a higher dose as recommended if needed. I can be a major (*&^%$ without sleep...just ask my husband!
