Hey guys, a while ago I said I needed surgery but it wasn't scheduled yet. I got the call yesterday that I'm going in on Tuesday! ahhh. I'm super nervous. I thought they would give me a bit more notice, but I guess it's for the best. I went in for my pre-op today, they said that if all goes as planned, I'll be out of the hospital on Friday morning, so fingers crossed for that. They're doing my surgery through a single incision in my belly button. Has anyone here had any experience with this type of surgery? Usually, it seems like everyone I've seen post here has done it the regular laprascopic way with multiple incisions. They told me that this is a pretty new way of doing it and they don't do it this way for most people. Hopefully everything goes as planned, because if it works out, I'll only have a small scar going down from my belly button, which would be great.
The doctor also told me that more than likely, I'll be off medication for 6 months after my surgery and they'll watch my blood counts to see if I need to be put on anything sooner. He said he wants to give my immune system a chance to reset itself. He said after that, he wants to put me on either Remicade or Humira - I'm leaning towards Remicade since I don't like the thought of giving myself injections haha. He also said he was going to do a colonoscopy 3 months after my surgery to see how everything is healing. How soon after surgery did you guys go back on medication? I was kind of surprised because I thought that I would be going on Remicade right after.
I'll keep you guys updated, I'm quite nervous but looking forward to hopefully feeling better afterwards as well. It'll be my first surgery, which I definitely wasn't expecting only a year after being diagnosed!
Oh yeah, and I was saying how on my endoscopy it was showing something in my duodenum. I've got Crohn's there too. yay!
