Infertility and Crohn's

I don't have any suggestions for you, but just wanted to send some (((Big Hugs))).

I had scar tissue around my ovaries and fallopian tubes as a result of peritonitis during my first crohn's flare and bowel resection when I was 28. I had microsurgery to remove the scar tissue but didn't get pregnant. I had a son before this happened when I was 22. I feel for you because that was one of the most helpless feelings.But things are better now. This forum is a place where you can express all your thoughts and feelings and you will not be judged. I had no one to confide in about Crohn's or the infertility back then and it seemed the weight of the world was on my shoulders. You can let go of some of that weight here. Hugs.

My GI told me I shouldn't have kids.
Based on her attitude, it seems like she doesn't believe anyone with Crohn's should have kids.
I don't know why she would think that way.
I never even heard of Crohn's effecting the fallopian tubes!!!

I do not know if crohn,s affects fertility as such but I tried to get pregnant after my 1st child for 15 months and eventually it happened after a missed miscarriage. In my opinion my crohn's defo affects my fertility as my periods are worse and so is my crohn,s at the time. I did not get a period for 6 months after I came off my pill and my crohn,s was very bad at the time so I agree with you. <y GI has told me not to have a third child as my body wont be able to take another trauma.

Crohn,s for around ten years but only diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago, 2 ressections and only on pentasa.

I too can contribute a lot to this post. As I have experienced IF as well due to scar tissue.
I feel your pain and worry, I really truly do!
I had all the tests done and it is vertuily impossible for me to conceive naturally. And doctors said it would be a HUGE risk to go in and remove the scar tissue because there is so much of it. I guess they say scar tissue is like raw dough, it just sticks to everything inside of you and to remove it is a big long surgery and no garuntees!

I did however do the invetro and was on the fertility drugs in 2006. It was not a successful process for us, .... for me.
And it became a terrible COSTLY experience that disappointed us greatly.
We had 2 embryos transfered in but they had an abnormal growth rate. And things just didn't look positive.
Abnormal embryos DO NOT turn out to be abnormal babies - they can be perfectly normal.
But I had something that they call Hydrosalphings - fluid in my tubes - and lots of it.
And embryos can not survive with this fluid in there. the fluid was from the surgery - removal of my colon.
I miscarried the 1st month in.

It was hard to find a purpose in our lives, in my life, after that.
After the invetro journey, we started looking into surrogacy in the states - which is even more costly - and now we are on a wait list with a private adoption agency.
It's a horrible feeling not being able to have children! I feel like a part of me has died.
It is hard to find hope and remain strong.
I feel our marriage has suffered because of it and this disease has thrived and made me more sick due to the stress & depression that comes along with it all.

I really do wish you the best, just remember, there are other options out there that you can look into.
You may want to start now.
I did not have CD when I was on the fertility drugs, but I remember that there was a very strict schedule with them.
I was on injections as well as some sort of nasal spray and I had to take a pill whatever it was I can't remember but I did keep a journal and a binder with all the info in it. I suggest you do the same as it may come in good use to you later on as there is a lot to remember.

HOPE 4 A CHILD.

I have Crohn's and my infertiltiy was caused by scar tissue related to an abdominal abscess and bowel resection.  Both of my fallopian tubes were blocked with scar tissue and no eggs can make it to my uterus.  I also had a hydrosalpinx in one of my fallopian tubes and had it surgically removed to increase my chances of conceiving.  It took two attempts, but I was finally able to conceive a baby boy through IVF.

Well, i can say that this infertility from crohns makes me really sad. My 14 yr old daughter has crohns and I know that she really wants kids when she is older. She is always talking about what she will do with her kids etc. I can only imagine how much more damage will occur in the next 10 to 12 years when she may be old enough to have kids. I didn't realize how much crohns could affect her ability to have children. I'm so sorry for all of you who have had so much trouble conceiving. Diana

Riesasmom -- don't stress. Infertility is not directly related to CD. It can be an issue after CD-related surgery. The experts I've seen at conferences just say that scar tissue after surgery just makes it take longer. I, and many other women on here, have had healthy babies without issues. My first took longer than I expected, but still in the normal range (7 months). The one I'm expecting now was first cycle while still breast feeding.

I was at the dentist office this week and the assistant asked me about this same subject.  She had known another lady with chrones who was in her 20's.  I am in my 40's.  She was told I guess by her doctor that she could not have children.  I have passed chrones on to at least one child so far which I was not willing to not have children.  I became asymptomatic during pregnancy if that helps.  I was able to conceive and carry. I have heard before due to scared tissue it can affect fertility.
