Abscess on the belly?

Ok looks like i have one it's hard and firery red. It's also painful i've had one on my belly years ago and i remember having to go thru alot of pain. My question is should i try to lance this thing myself (hubby thinks so). It's a hard knot under it about the size of a dime and i'm wondering if this thing will need to be packed like the last time. I do have a dr. appt. friday and i'm thinking about just waiting and showing it to my dr. C ould this be related to my crohn's or just a abscess out of the blue?

i think you should really show yr doc this hun its not the first right......
im so sorry you are going thru so much pain
but if you lance it chances of infection are wee higher and dont wanna see you go thru that too

you know my history of the sores n pyoderma..going thru hades with full infection..iv antibitics to which my total loss of hearing is being attributed to

No! don't do it yourself get you doc to take a look I had an abscess in 08 and it turned into afistula please get it checked Bev x

I have to admit I would get the doc to check it out. Especially if it is someplace where your seat belt rubs.

Hi Kay,

I suggest you call your doctor and get in to see him/her ASAP. The quicker the better so the infection -- whatever it is from -- doesn't get much bigger. Oh I really just despise abscesses!

Thanks everyone, I think i'll just wait ti'll friday and show it to my dr. The last time i had one they wanted me to be on antibiotics too,so maybe it would be best to let the dr. see it. Thanks again

Kay,

(((hugs))) These abscesses are terrible.  I think the doctor should look at it to confirm that it is an abscess and not a boil or something.  Do you have a heating pad?  I find that it helps with the pain and also helps to bring it to a head.  I wish you could see the doc before Friday though, as antibiotics would help you sooner than later.  Keep me updated my friend.

As you can see i can't sleep, so i thought i'd add a few comments to my post. I worked today and this abscess kept getting rubbed by my shorts and the seatbelt. I've decided to go on to the dr. in the morning. The skin around this thing is all red about the size of a quarter and it seems to have heat to it soooooo i'm going to call in work in the morning and go on to the dr. before it gets worse, ugggggg i'm dreading it because i had one of these a few years ago and the dr. showed no mercey on me. She started lancing that thing and dug a core out of it then packed it with gauze omg did it ever hurt. So tomorrow they can look but i'll insist if there's any poking and proding their going to have to numb the area first or i'll walk. Wish me luck and thanks for all the advice.

Oh yes they had better use some kind of numbing stuff first. I would punch them in the nose if they tried to do it without. Do put a heating pad on it, that might help ease the pain a little until you can get to the doc. Good luck and keep us posted!

I did make it to the dr. today he says it's a sebaceous cyst thats infected. So he lanced this thing and then packed it with gauze has me on an antibiotic and wants to see me again on friday. He took me out of work till monday so i'm just resting and following drs. orders. I hope you all had a low pain day!!!

Did the numb the area before the lancing??

Yes the dr. did good he numbed the area and i thought just for one second part of it wasn't numb so he kept numbing it ti'll i couldn't feel a thing!!!! Thank God
