I was diagnosed in June 2009 with Coihns. I went in to the hospital with severe pain having been told 2X's it was a stomach virus.  I had a bowel resectionand a new diagnosis of Crohns at 45 -suprise!!!.  Prior to this I had chronic hip and knee pain on my right side only.  I went for x ray and told it was arthritis.  Now I'm on celebrex,pentasa, skeletol, flagyl, prednisone  ( just spent 3 days in hospital due to flare up).  Does anyone else have any joint pain? Sometimes my leg  throbs at night and only on right side ??  I'm very puzzzled at this and want to know if it is related to the crohns??  Thanks for your feedback!

Oh, you should probably not be taking Celebrax - isn't it a COX inhibitor? I think COX inhibitors, just like other NSAIDs can cause gastrointestinal issues, and bleeding, which can trigger a crohn's flare up or make it worse. Yes, my husband too got diagnosed with Crohn's pretty late in life - he was 42 when he got his crohn's diagnosis. From what I've read and seen, a lot of people with crohn's also have joint inflammation and pain. Crohn's can also cause other issues like uveitis (eye) and skin issues. It just seems to sometimes accompany the disease, and is usually treated the same way I think - with immuno-modulators/suppressors, and steroids.

However, there is the auto-immune disease cascade theory. The theory is that having one auto-immune disease like crohn's makes you more likely to get another, like rheumatoid arthritis. I think if you are having a lot of joint pain and inflammation, it's time to see a rheumatologist, and run some tests, and make sure this is crohn's inflammation you're dealing with, and not something like RA.

Please go see a rheumatologist right away, so you can stop taking the celebrax, and get on a treatment that will control the joint inflammation while not making the crohn's worse. I hope you get some relief soon.

My CD causes considerable amounts of something very similar to Rheumatoid arthritis. This is actually very common, many Rheumatologists even know about it.
Unlike in UC, CD joint pain doesn't accurately reflect what is going on in your intestines.

Then I found I had Osteoarthritis on top of my IBD arthritis 3 years ago, it was almost too much..

I have Osteoarthritis related to my Crohns disease. In fact, because of the damage the OA has caused I will be having a total knee replacement in the next couple months. Do see a Rheumatologist about this joint pain. Hugs!

Hey, I wasn't diagnosed with Crohn's until just before my 52nd birthday, when I had to have an emergency resection! And yes, I've got lots of joint and muscle pain, too. I have osteoarthritis in one knee, but that comes and goes. The joint and muscle pain is sometimes mild and sometimes almost unbearably painful. I'm handling it with lots of low-impact water aerobics, daily warm baths, and occasional hydrocodone. My incompetent first gastroenterologist spent four years not diagnosing Crohn's, but sent me to a rheumatologist, who told me I had fibromyalgia instead, mostly because I winced and yelped every time he touched a pressure-point. So I know how you're feeling! Hang in.

yes, i have considerable pain in nearly all my joints. some joints are worse when i am having a flare, i also have osteoarthritis in my neck and lower back and arthritis in my right jaw.

oh yeah...joints and back hurt really bad at time. behind my knees, ankles, hips and back...on and off but when it hurts it's for days at a time. sometimes it's really hard to even stand. i feel like i'm 80.

My joints pound when I'm flaring. That was actually my first symptom after my resection and when I knew there was trouble brewing.

Right now it's my knees. It's been all the joints at one time or the other.

My knees have been killing me also.  They only hurt when I try and sit and stand.  I was wondering if anyone had taken Glucosamine Chodroitin with any success.  Can we with Crohns even take this suppliment??  Thanks

I've tried it before. My results weren't a miracle, but I got minor relief. In a flare, nothing seems to really help. Even strong narcotis BARELY take the edge off..
I take Celebrex for my Osteo, doesn't effect my CD in the least. safer than alternatives IMO. But like Glucosamine I have mixed reviews on its efficay.

not being funny...we gave it to our 13 year old border collie when he started having trouble standing/walking and it seemed to give him some relief...

after diagnosis back in '84 by the late 80's i was having terrible hip pain mostly on the right. i went to therapy 3 times a week with moist heat and therapist stretching the area etc.. really all there was back then. it went away for a time but visits every now and again.
