Getting Married with Crohn's or Colitis...

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I can't even imagine the stress of worrying about having and accident on your day. That being said, you are very wise to have a game plan. Having the game plan should eliminate a lot of the stress that could contribute to you having an accident. May I suggest that you prepare yourself by taking extra underwear and some kind of diaper/maxi-pad etc. I'm sure you've thought of that already. Does immodium help you at all? If so, I would take it round the clock that day. Does prednisone help you? Would your GI be willing to put you on a short burst of it for a week or two so you could have the extra help to keep your gut calm? I might try that. You can't not eat - with all of the stress you'll possibly faint! Maybe eat light? But you've got to eat!

You could possibly have "Crohn's Colitis" - there are 5 types of Crohn's named for the places where crohn's affects your body. I have Crohn's Colitis - crohn's in the colon/large intestine. In layman's terms Colitis affects the top layer of the intestines, Crohn's affects all of the layers. So, in checking you out with a colonoscopy, they probably looked at the degree to which the inflammation affects your gut, etc. Don't be discouraged that they haven't named it. It sounds like they are on the right track in trying to help you.

How's it going with the Humira? Does it help? Try to schedule your shot a few days to a week before your ceremony to make sure that you are getting the most benefit from the med.

I really feel for you and the stress that you have to go through with this. I know it seems like it's not fair. But you will have a LOVELY wedding day! I just know it. Make sure you schedule the day to give you plenty of time to get to the bathroom and while it feels like it would be the end of the world to have to cut to the bathroom in the middle of something (like the actual ceremony) - it's ok if you have to. You can tell whomever is going to marry you and then there can be a joke about "cold feet" or whatever. You'll do great!

hey there!! I feel your stress!! I just got married last October and I went through the same thing! I told my dr. I need to feel great for the day of AND for a week after b/c we flew 13 hours to Hawaii and I was soo nervous to be on a plane ride that long!

He gave me prednisone for two weeks. It was great b/c the extra energy it gave me actually helped me get things done prior to the wedding and I felt good throughout the wedding day! I stayed away from all alcohol and ate safe foods for the day. Unfortuntely, the honeymoon didn't go as well...haha, but at least the wedding day went beautifully! I never had to go potty in my dress the entire night! Stress makes my Crohn's worse, so you can't stress about what will happen and just hope that things go well!

Also? My ceremony was literally 15 minutes long!! It helped! Good luck!! and congrats!

I would go with the not eating plan.

That works wonder for me but just drink lots of poweraid or stuff like that to keep you going.

And keep the dress simple so that a simple toilet trip will not become a mayor deal and so you can go quick and easy.

I would say that it does not matter what you have as long as they are treating you and the treatment is working.
My doc thinks I have UC but he treats me like I have CD. And I am not on board with hid dx I think I have CD but It does not matter. I am getting Humira and it has finally start to work so I will keep my mouth shut as long as I am getting better.

It would be great for you to meet this new doc and see what he has to say.

Congrats to you! I've been in plenty of weddings, but haven't found the right woman yet to plan my own lol... I can imagine how stressful it must be. Wish you the best of luck!

I'd go with the no-eating thing, but take your meds, vitamins and be sure to stay hydrated so you don't get weak in the knees!

Ask you doctor about prescribing and using 10% Tincture of deodorized Opium.  It works great.  Too much can make you drowsy.  0.6 ml in a shot glass of water every 4 hours may help you through your wedding and reception. I use an old 1ml syringe to measure.

BTW insurance probably will not cover it.  For me this is a big quality of life med.

congrats on your wedding. I have found stress good or bad gets my stomach juices going and therefore bathroom time. I would suggest a low mg of xanx. And maybe some bentyl for abdominal spasms. I would eat a lite breakfast. And maybe a boost in between about 2 to 3 hours before the wedding i would just drink water. That should give your body some time to evacuate what it needs to. Immodium is okay but i wouldnt get carried away with it cause it may make you uncomfortable. i know im so used to going and nothing really left. That when i take immodium or anything it really slows things down ,and thats one pill ,I feel really uncomfortable. I would never take predisone unless i had to. Its not a very good medicine for the side effects. ive had crohns for 31 years and it always surprises me . Again congrats I know your wedding will be fine and special. Hope some of this helps. :

I went through the same thing this time last year, my wedding was last September. I'd been having a lot of trouble with my Crohn's and by May I was already freaking out. I emailed my doctor and told him I wanted to postpone the wedding, he told me to relax. My husband told me the same. The best advice I got was on here: Imodium Advanced. Worked like a charm. But like another posted said, there's so much going on you'll probably forget about your gut - I did. I think it's the adrenaline that kicks in.

Please don't skip breakfast, you're going to need your energy. Maybe eat a few snacks throughout the morning instead of a huge meal? At my reception I didn't have time to eat much, too many people to see, too many songs to dance to!
