well went to the GI today, first time since the flexi sigmoidoscopy wasn't successful.And now he wasnts me to have a full colonoscopy,which I am really dreading!!! In some ways I was expecting him to say I would have to have one,but dreading the procedure as well as the results been as I have basically been flaring for 3 months constant now :((
Any suggestions or hints for the prepping???

Why wasn't the sigmoidoscopy successful? Do you have strictures or a blockage??? That sounds suspicious.
Have you ever done the miralax prep? It is tasteless and you don't have to drink gallons of stuff. Good luck!! Nobody likes those things!

when they did the sigmoidoscopy it was unsuccessful because the enema didnt work so I had stools in there, I was heavily constipated at the time, and only one enema about half an hour before i had it done! I'm not sure if I have blockages or strictures, as some days I'm constipated and other days I'm on the loo constantly.

My colonoscopy was doen with Osmoprep which are pills you take with 8oz of liquid. I had to be on a liquid diet the full day before the procedure. If you can use these pills they are a great alternative to the nasty stuff to drink. One suggestion though..you have to take 4 pills every 15 mins with a full 8oz of liquid. You can get mighty bloated on water and it can be hard to get down. I used one of the other approved liquids which was white grape apple juice and it worked great. The colonoscopy itself was nothing. I slept thru the whole thing.

The doctor told me they sedate you but not knock you out completely, as sometimes they need you to move,so they like you still to be responsive that you can talk to them and obviously help with the moving. I am in the UK,not sure what procedures it is for drinking the nasty stuff or taking pills.Think I would much rather take pills every 15 minutes to drinking the liquid!

my doc finally said he doesnt make his patients drink the liquid anymore! hooray! oh and gatorade and lemon ice are a nice thing to hold you over while fasting!

I recently underwent a gastroscopy and colonoscopy. They do give you a lighter sedation, but I still slept thru it. I had a prep called pica-prep. 2 glasses only the day before the procedure with a clear fluid diet only. The prep was a little salty to drink. But block your nose before you drink and that takes away most of the taste! I am in Australia, dont know where you are so Im not sure if this is an alternative for you. The pills mentioned above sound great. Either way, ask your doctor/pharmacist what is the easiest and quickest prep available.

Ok, enough about prep. Let's talk protection!

Here's the thing, your butt hole is going to burn no matter what you drink.

Solution: Barrier cream, Penaten, or some zinc ocide ointment. Wrap your finger in plastic (or a surgical glove) dig out a large amount and do your best to get it around and inside anus.

Trust me on this, at the end you're pooping rocket fuel, which for me is as bad as drinking 4 liters of prep (hate that stuff, GoLytly my ass).

You may need to reapply, if you feel a hint of a burn, do so.

Why the doctors don't tell you about this is one of my pet peeves. It's so simple!

Oh and if I take both drugs, sometimes I just do pain killers so I can be aware and see what's going on, but if I take both, I don't remember a thing.

Hi, don´t worry about the prosedure, prep is always the worse thing for me. I used to be given Fortrans (4l of liquid to drink over 4 hours) and couldn´t do it-max I could was about 2,5 litres, then I couldn´t carry on without vomiting it-which didn´t clear me enough.
This time I had liquid diet for 3 days + enema. Was that a torture ! Was cooking for family+sister+brother in law who were visiting at the time and could´t eat a thing turn

The procedure itself was fine, no pain. Good luck !
