Hi all
Well, yesterday I went to see my new GP. I cant say how wonderful he is. I was in his office for at least an hour. My hands were sweating unbelievably as were my fee tand my shirt was drenched. (yes I did change it before I went to the appointment). He was shocked! Something of major interest happened though. After seeing him a week ago, he requested my pathology reports from my GI. To his surprise - and mine- the pathologist who looked at the biopsy results from the colonoscopy of a month ago, had suggested that because there was no evidence of granuloma cells in the tissues of the bowel - it was probabe that the diagnosis was infact UC. 10 biopsies were colected throughout the large colon showing moderate to extensive ulceration pertaining to the top mucosal lining of the bowel. When I discussed with the GP about commencing imuran and my concerns for doing so, he also became alerted. The other comment posted by the pathologist was that acute bowel colitis should be ruled out before immunoloduator treatment. Acute bowel colitis referring to a viral, bacterial, parasite infestation. My GP could not believe the sweating and actually held my hands to comfort me and said, we will get on top of this. He did say that given the pathology report and the fact that the GI was wanting to commence me on imuran, he strongly recommends that I have a second colonsocopy before starting any further treatment. He noted that the pathology report was done locally and that it had also been sent off to Sydney for a second opinion. Again, it was reported from Sydney that viral, bacterial, parastitic infection and UC cannot be ruled out. The GP said that if it is infact UC it will be that of what is called pancolitis, given that the entire large bowel is involved. But a second scope must be done to be sure. He also said that he felt that there was indeed some anxiety setting in, and given the many misdiagnosis I have had in the past and possibly yet another here, he understood my frustrations completely. So to calm the waters a bit, he scripted me for a night sedative and some Xanax - which he tells me will relieve the anxiety until we get on top of this and also help the sweating. Had a good sleep last night and took 0.5mg Xanax this morning with no sweating!! Although he suspects that the probablility of this being and IBD - wether it be crohns or UC, he did say it is important to know which one. He trully was a breath of fresh air. He also said that he is happy to go ahead with anyfurther testing for confirmation including CT and barrium swallow to see if indeed the full thickness of the bowel is involved. - What a guy!
I told him about you guys too - about how much I have learned and how nice it is to talk to others going thru similar ups and downs. - His advice was to keep online with you and is happy for any suggestions I may pose to him about others that are experiencing success with their treatments.
Thankyou so much to all of you
