Shoulder pain being caused by Crohns??

So I went to the out of hours doc as I've got really bad shoulder pain which I figured was from spending too much time at the computer which had got really intense and so thought I'd see if they could give me something to relax the muscles or something........anyhow I leave with a prescription for antibiotics n the doctor scaring the poop out of me! He reckons its not a muscle thing at all and that its pain from my diaphram from a Crohn's-related infection around my stomach?? He even started pondering if there could be a perforation! Thing is my Crohn's has been fine for ages, my stomach feels a bit stressed but not painful and not Crohns-painful. I saw my specialist and had bloods done 2 weeks ago and everything still seems to be great. Has anyone ever heard of this? Getting shoulder pain and it being Crohn's? Is perforation a possibility? (but surely thats the sort of thing you'd definitely know about right?) Its not a doc I've seen before and I know a lot of docs freak when they see Crohn's on your form and automatically assume everything right down to a broken leg is down to it......not sure if I should be worried or not?!

I get bad shoulder pains when I get a colon cramp but Its nothing like a muscle pain.

Just try rubbing the place that hurts and if it hurts when you are pushing onto the muscle, I would relax ;)

I broke a nail the other day...maybe I should go see that dr and see if he thinks it's related to CD??

Oh, and I'd definitely think you would know if you were perforated. You would have other symptoms...likely abdomen pain that would be enough for you not to guess about whether or not to go to the ER.

Can you take a bath with epsom salts? If it's a muscle, that should help a bit, and if the bath or resting your arm helps, I would assume the dr was wrong and it was a muscle. Unfortunately there are as many bad drs out there as there are good ones, and people are wrongly diagnosed with things all the time.

He checked out my back, neck and arms and range of movement and as my movement isnt effected and the pain doesn't change if I move it or not thats what convinced him its not muscular. And the fact that I have a fever, I was suprised when he said that as I didn't feel feverish but now I do and the shoulder pain kept waking me during the night. Unfortunately none of the late night pharmacys had the antibiotics he prescribed so I haven't got or started them yet, going to go and get them in a bit and pray they work as this pain is really doing my head in now, I've got exams this week I can't afford to be ill/in too much pain! Keep randomly bursting into tears which I'm not sure if thats down to pain or fever.

I've been wondering the same thing with regard to a sharp pain that I've been having in my groin. I thought I detected some beginning mild symptoms of my kidney stones popping up and had my Primary Care Physician write a script for pain medication while the stones were passing. I had my second Remicade treatment last Monday and was pretty well relieved of pain the day after but this strange pain has started a couple of days later. I remember having a perforation before where the only noteworthy symptoms were a very high White Blood Cell count and a sharp pain from time to time similar to what I feel now. Please keep us informed.

Hello, I think that maybe you should go to the emergency room. I don't want to scare you at all but it's better to know exactly what is going on. I had a colonoscopy done about 3-4 weeks ago and before I even got out of the building I started having the chills. My friend and husband thought it was probably from the anisthesia (sorry, if spelt wrong). I got home in about 20 minutes and was shaking so bad that my teeth felt like they were going to break. My husband called the office and they told him to take my temp, I was starting to run a fever. It stayed low grade all day and they told him to give me plenty of fluids. During the night the fever went up to 104 and by the morning it was low grade again. My husband and I went to the emergency room and they ran blood test and doctors kept pushing on my belly asking if I had any pain. I didn't have pain but one doctor asked if I had any back or shoulder pain. I wanted to know why he asked me that and he said because that is a sign of perforation. I didn't have pain so they just sent me home. It's been about 4 weeks now and I still keep running a very low grade temp almost everyday. I was admitted into the hospital through my surgeon because she felt I probably needed to rest and get some fluids and IV antibiotics. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on but I just wanted to let you know that everyone's body is different and can react to things in different ways. I think if you are still having the pain you should at least go to the ER so they can at least give you a CT scan and make sure it's not a perforation. It's always better to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the responses guys, sorry to hear you're all suffering too! I am doing bit better now, temp is now down to normal and I'm not having the stabbing pains in my back as frequently, just constant ache and then the odd phase of stabbing pain. Feeling nauseated and bit of a grumbly tum now though but think that could be down to the antibiotics. I'm hoping I can actually sleep through the night tonight and do this exam in the morning, I've worked so hard I really want to get it out the way. I will of course be checking in with my GP tomorrow though, this just doesn't feel right, I'm usually quite good with pain but this is killing me. I'm really hoping it is just something simple that can be cleared up quick so my hard work doesn't get ruined.

Could it be your gallbladder? I think it can cause shoulder pain...

Saw another doc and she suggested gallbladder is a possibilty, she's taken bloods and put a rush on them and is going to review me later this afternoon. In the meantime I got to take tramadol and rest. Oh and I messed up my first exam :( had to leave because of the pain. I really hope they can figure out what this is.

Just to update. I ended up in hospital yesterday, the second doctor I saw yesterday sent me for an X-ray and for a scan or something of my stomach, got given morphine and then waited over 7 hours before the doc could see me only to tell me at 1am that they weren't going to do the tests as they didn't think my bloodtest results were remarkable enough (they show some signs of infection and inflammation) gave me morphine and sent me on my way and told me to check in with GP if I was still wasn't better or got worse.....hmm yeh so I can be sent for tests to find out whats going on only to be messed around all night again??? Sorry just so annoyed, I have bad hospital anxiety anyway so anytime in hospital is an ordeal and I only ever go if I really genuinely need help and to be fobbed off like that just got me so angry. If I don't get better or get worse I'm going to travel the 200 miles to my mum's and see my regular docs. I feel a lot better today as I actually managed to sleep after getting the morphine, I'm waiting for all the pain meds to wear off so I can properly gage how I really am. Really hoping the antibiotics and everything are helping, got another exam in the morning I just hope I'm well enough to make it and the scattiness lifts so I can at least remember what I need to!
