had my resection on monday smilewinkgrin have to say I was surprised that I do not feel any pain from it (only got pain meds the first day)
they've let me dring tea yesterday and today and we're waiting for the first stool to come
my question is... how long did you wait for you first stool and how was it? :)

Wow sounds like you are doing great!! Congrats! I think it was about day 3 when my bowels started moving. You will have some explosive d at first, but that will calm down once your bowels adjust to the surgical changes. Good luck!

I had gas and felt it move lots of times but still no stool
I'm just anxious cause I want to go home as fast as I can smilewinkgrin

If you think coughing is not fun with a laproscopic resection, you can only imagine how bad it was with an open resection. I hurt so bad after my first resection, I didn't even want to breathe. Ouchy!

Good to hear you have got the gas on the move. I think thats the beginning. Hope you are able to go soon, so you can go home.

Remember though that just because you are feeling better, not to overdo. Remember you just had major surgery and still need to rest and recover.

I had an open resection :) the plan was to do a laparascopic stricturoplasty but the surgeon discovered a fistula that needed to be taken care of in that area too :\

Wow I am impressed that you are doing so well! As I said with the first resection the pain was horrible. I was in ICU the first two days, and was on Demerol every 3 hours. The 2nd resection which was open also, was bad but not as bad as the emergency surgery. Now my pain levels may have been harder though because I did get an infection in my incision both times. No fun at all!

Try to walk a little bit more everyday and that will help to get things moving too.

You sound like me! I had mine done just over 6 weeks ago, and I recovered quite easily as well. I was eating solids less than 24 hours post-op. I was able to pass gas within hours of my surgery ,my bowels started working immediately. It took about 2-3 days to have a BM though. The only downside is that I was always constipated pre-op (probably because I had strictures, my ileum was about as wide as a pencil according to my doctor), and I've had serious urgency/D post-op. I have to take an Imodium every 1-3 days to block me up a bit, otherwise I can't function. I hope your recovery continues to go well!

Gas was next day, solids was i think 2 days after. Good to hear you're doing so well.

what about pain after eating or drinking? seems like I get some short piercing pains inside from time to time ... that normal?

It took me almost 2 weeks before I moved my stool after surgery, but I didn't start eating until a week after surgery.

What was the cause of your narrowings? inflammation or scarring?

I got nothing but ice for 3 days, soup on day 4, solid food on day 6. I think my first BM was 4 days? The gas started to move about 48 hours after the surgery (one of the worst pains EVER).

I'm so impressed you are doing so well! My recovery was awful...

I don't know that I had to have a BM before I left the hospital with my surgeries, but I definitely had to pass gas. I didn't actually eat solids until the morning I was discharged. Of course they did tell me if I didn't have one within a couple days of being home, I needed to be seen.

Glad to hear you're progressing well! I accredit healing quicker after my 2nd surgery to walking frequently as soon as I could after surgery...did you do a lot of moving around soon after surgery, or do you just have a really high pain tolerance?

well, according to my last colonoscopy, the stricture was from inflamation... but the problem was, it was making my life miserable.. I couldnt eat without having a blockage anymore.. only liquids ... lost A LOT of weigth because of it (I'm 196 cm tall and now, post-op have 56, 57 kilos I think)
high pain tolerance? I think I have it.. I had soooooo many (partial) blockages in the last year so I've learned to manage pain myself... I do not like taking drugs if I dont have to... I'm proud that I didnt need any pain pills to get me through those blockages
I accredit my quick reckovery after the surgery to my shape before surgery... I was really skinny, but I was strong ... I started climbing 2 years ago and It helped me get into shape .. funny thing is, 3 weeks ago, I had my best result so far... I was in great shape :)))
currently, day 5 surgery... have a feeling I'll be getting that stool today and looking foward to it :)))

It was a good 10 days or so before I had anything come out - but I had always been slow in how fast my bowels would wake up.

nope... standard procedure here (croatia) is that they hold you and monitor you min. 7 days... on day 7 or 8 the stiches go out and if all is ok (eating, pooping), then they'll let me home.. they want to be sure all is ok when they let you out :D

That's probably for the best., it's nice to see that over there they have procedures like that, better to be safe than sorry. I was discharged on day 3, I was doing extremely well, but a few days later I had to be readmitted due to peritonitis, and my blood counts dropped very low and I needed transfusions. It may seem long, but it's really for the best that they're positive that everything is 100% before discharging you, because my situation wasn't very fun. It was lucky that I had a doctor's appt the following week - my GI nearly had a heart attack when he saw me and readmitted me right away. I'm like you and have a high pain tolerance, I didn't realize that anything was out of the ordinary haha. I thought my pain was normal recovery pain.

yes, although I hate this hospital bed, better safe than sorry... thank god for universal health care and not worrying about bills :)
