Good morning! I am so glad I this forum is available. I get more info here than anywhere else.
I am currently on Cimzia and have been getting boils/abscesses in the vaginal, rectal, and pretty much every other area down there. My GI said it is a skin infection due to being on Cimzia because it is lowering my immune system. He said it is a chronic staph infection. He basically told me it is either deal with this or stop Cimzia and deal with Crohn's inflammation. I am allergic to Flagyl and had to stop taking Cipro due to nerve damage it caused. He said there is no other treatment for these except Flagyl or Cipro on a permanent basis, which I cannot take. When I asked him if he would feel comfortable walking around with a chronic staff infection he said no, but that I just had to learn to live with it because it is part of having Crohn's. These abscesses/boils get pretty big and make it difficult to walk and sit. Even when they are small they hurt like hell. But more worrisome to me is that it is a staph infection and I think those can cause many serious issues, especially if they spread to other areas and to the muscle.
Has anyone ever had to deal with these types of infections while on biologics? If so, has anyone found an antibiotic or other treatment that got rid of the infection? I get an abscess/boil and it has to be lanced and drained. Then as soon as one clears up, another forms.
