Doctor doesn't believe in yeast in the gut

I suspect I may have an over growth of Candida in my intestines. I saw my doctor today and asked him about it and was told he didn't believe in yeast problems related to medication. He said even with his patients taking Humira he wouldn't see a reason for yeast.

I was hoping the conversion would go in the direction of getting a GI panel to verify, but was shot down before I could ask. So I am not sure how I should bring it up again at my next appointment. Any suggestions?

Do what I Do when my GI refuses to do a test I've asked for ("I don't do vitamin d levels for my patients") ask your family Dr. to test for it or prescribe the treatment.

Good point. I just assumed a family doctor couldn't do a GI panel. I might check into that.

It would be harmless to try a good probiotic to restore "good" bacteria to the gut. You don't need a doctor or a script for that. Just a good pharmacy or natural nutrition store.

I currently take Florastor in the morning and evening. I had been taking Primadophilus Reuteri in addition to the florastor but just switched to Primadophilus Fortify

Ugh your doc makes me mad! I have had two resections and because of that I tend to get bacterial overgrowth all the time. Get the same symptoms you describe. Generally a 10 day course of Cipro or now Xifaxan along with good probiotics tend to knock it right out of me. I agree see your family doc. Hugs!
