What Wikipedia Suggests About Crohn's...

I went to a talk sponsored by the CCFA one time and the doctors (most of whom were my current or former GIs) did say that smoking tobacco seems to help with UC but makes Crohn's worse.  But, they said the other risks associated with smoking outweight the UC benefits. 

I had simuliar results as Nanners so i do think it does do something
perhaps not for all but i know im one it worked to alleviate sx

Oops, sorry about the rule break...just thought it was weird that something like that was on Wikipedia, but I guess I've heard that Wikipedia isn't a very reliable source and was curious if someone had read about it anywhere else with more evidence...but I'm guessing not or it would be all over the internet...

And I also believe that this new surgeon I saw is a bit of a moron although, he suggested I get a CT scan before pulling a drain tube (for an abscess three weeks ago) but I took the advice of my preferred surgeon out of town and he told me to have it pulled out after describing the drainage, after 11 days, and now I have it again...or at least something like another abscess. I had a CT yesterday (I've had way too many of those) and it showed what they called *phlegmon or something, like an undefined abscess or just a bit of "stuff" floating around....So, I'm kind of kicking myself for not taking the moron's advice now...

Wikipedia is not a reliable source at all because anyone can put that information on there. While it can be helpful for basic info, you can not cite the information for school reports for a reason. Tabacco used to be something that was thought to help the stomach back in the old days but now we know about cancer. Chewing tabacco is actually worse on your body than regular smoking because it goes directly into your bloodstream. The fiberglass shards alone in it are bad enough but then you add in the tabacco and side effects from it.
I have never heard about the birthcontrol arguement but it would not make sense since males develop the disease too. I can assure you that I have never handled or taken birth control in my life unless it was by accident when i was trying to get a mint out of my wife's purse. I can see how it may trigger a flare in someone that already has the disease due to fact it does change the hormone levels in a women.
