I was in the hospital for 16 weeks, 1 month in a nursing home, had one bad operation, and 2 are upcoming probably. Now, they say I am disabled. I so happy! lol

I have SSI. I should be getting 670 or so a month.

welcome to the club! i support you and many others do too. maybe they are sleeping? ;0).. why so little on SSI? did you not work long enough for SSDI?

Nostra, I'm glad you got your disability because it certainly sounds like it is justified. Where did you have your surgery because I know several people who have had botched resections, etc. at community hospitals. Not that it can't happen at a teaching hospital but it certainly happens less often.

Being disabled has many benefits. For example; I don't pay property taxes on my house, because I am disabled.
When I want to go fishing, I don't need a license, just my Social Security Info.

Many things out there.

Wow! I didn't know it carried that many benefits outside of the money.
However, I don't think I qualify YET.

I am wondering if I will be considered disabled for life. They said there would be a reevaluation in a year or so.

I can only imagine! Good for you! Sounds like the road has been tough. Too bad you had to be soooo bad off before they approved it. I'm on my 3rd appeal:( If it wasn't for my husband I'd be on the streets!

Yes, they will re-evaluate you... and ask for "new" tests to be done. My brother has 100 disability coverage and they still re-evaluate you ...over and over again. "They" even have been known to send out spy's to watch you and ask your neighbors about your "goings on"

It's so sad that people would abuse the system that they need to send out spies! But, that's the world we live in. Good luck with the disability! It's important to be able to get the help we need when we really need it!
