What would a liquid diet consist of ?

Do you have a juicer? are you able to drink vegetable juices? I can and i swear my juicer has saved my life by juicing kale/spinach/celery/cucumbers.  But use caution i know that some people cannot tolerate them.  Wishing you the best. i also here others talk of ensure but i cannot tolerate that.  The best of luck to you.

As long as you choose one of the standard meal-replacement drinks that are made for this purpose, you wouldn't have to have additional vitamins and minerals; they would provide all that you need. The easiest to find are Ensure and Boost, which are available in groceries and pharmacies. There also are a range of more specialized formulas that you can order through the manufacturers or medical supply houses. Some people respond best to one formula or another, others respond to any, but it's not predictable in advance.

I lived off the following for almost 2 months:

Jell-o
Pudding
Soup
Applesauce
Ensure/Boost

Its the diabetes. I just cant eat what i need to eat to help the crohns and not run my blood sugar up. My numbers are way way too high and I dont use sugar or dring soft drinks . I'm staying away from starches but then the crohns rears it ugly head. I cant eat lettuce , but I do eat vegies but even with just meat and veg. my levels are in the 240 to 290 range with a high over 300 sometimes. Yep its bad . I lost feeling in my toes long ago . I really really dont want to be on insulin but i am on three kinds of diabetes meds and nothing is helping right now. Looks like I am sc----- and tattooed.

Sorry you are feeling so bad Sniper. I can't imagine fighting between diabetes and Crohns. It sure does seem sometimes that we can't win for losing. Hugs!

Just had another thought. you say the nutritionist is as baffled as you. Is there anyway, that some of your meds/infusions
could be affecting your sugar levels?

When i was put on a liquid diet I had noting but soup, jello, pudding, gatorade, water, pedalite, ensure, and vitamin water. hope this helps!

Sniper my friend (I am taking liberties as a newer member and am sure you will forgive this) but I so look up to you as many others do also. You have such a gift of words that encourage and uplift up the spirits of many.

In regards to needing insulin-my advice is to acquiesce to this medication. High glucose (sugar) levels are damaging to all tissues-the heart and all of the circulation supported by the heart, the small blood vessels in the eyes and as you are experiencing, the nerves. Skin, tears, and muscles cannot heal well when bathed in too much glucose that occur as a result of the daily insults of living. Remember- glucose is a normal digested product of what we eat and the pancreas adjusts insulin output based on triggering cues. In trending many posts over the last several months it seems that a secondary result of crohn's disease is digestive organ disruption. Equally important here is the role of medications and how they are metabolized-they do sometimes have negative effects and sometimes this results in diabetes. Grief is important here - and verbalizing the need for support is one of your strengths but this is process is not one of failure on your part. Personally, I think that the crohn's diet is of primary importance and adjusting insulin dosing to complement those dietary restrictions is more important than following the diabetic diet.

The whole Diabetes and Crohnes thing really really stinks! I feel for ya lots! Going through the same thing all the time. I remember when I was first diagnosed and you reached out to me. Made me feel like there was somebody else dealing with both:) Fortunatley, my numbers aren't super high as of yet..so when Crohns is bad I just bail on the Diabetes diet...

Just went over all of this with my nutritionist blah blah...Crohns has been icky latley so I've got bad Diabetes numbers:( and right now we are on a wait and see thing for the next month before we start meds...yuck!

 

I have already decided that if they get bad enough...I'm going for a pump! Have you thought about it? Then you don't have to worry about needles and it just automatically kicks in what you need. I have friends who have done it and it's so much easier...who gives a flip at this point..right! If you feel better and it frees up some of your life....Do It!!! So much better than sitting around worrying about numbers,numbers,numbers! Having the numbness like you do is a sign to me that your damaging tissue...and well WE need you here! :)
