Just a quick update for anyone interested in how HBOT is going for us.  Mitch has now completed 20 sessions, after the first 11 sessions the bm's were not acidic anymore and today was the first day since last November that he woke up and was able to get out of bed and not have a BM until later in the day.  So it appears that things are headed in the right direction.    Still hesitant to try any new foods.     When we did HBOT last fall we did not start seeing results until after about 30 sessions, but his CRP was much higher, so I guess that makes sense. 

Staci100 are you still doing HBOT sessions?

Well, I've only had 3 sessions. My last one was wednesday and I got sick up in the day afterwards. Not b/c of the HBOT. Had a fever maybe due to CD or virus. The doc doesn't seem to want me to do it every day. I would like to myself though. However, on wednesday I had to have them get me out b/c I had to "go" and naturally couldn't wait so then I had to change and all that stuff and then get back in that thing! Only me!! My CD is just not good right now. I am still not up to 4.5 on the LDN. I think I go up to that on Monday. Maybe that will help too. Oh and I am getting the yeast thing checked on Tuesday. I kinda wonder about that being a problem for me too. I have D all day long but I do not feel bad. I don't know what my CRP is right now and I don't think I want to know. Hahah. Maybe it will take me longer b/c of that also.

dms40 so glad to hear that Mitch is feeling better. Hopefully I will follow in his footsteps! I am hopeful and positive. I cancelled my appt with my GI who would die if he knew I was doing any of this. Thought I might wait and see if I can get better with these non-traditional methods.

Now I can even get into the HBOT thing b/c of bowel movements or should I say straight brown water running thru my system. Don't know what to do b/c I really think it is a good thing for CD patients. Getting sicker and need in that thing but don't want to "go" all in it!

My son has been in remission since last summer, we were at the GI 3 weeks ago, he was very happy with the progress of his fistula - one has completely closed over - healed, the other one was a large crater with very tender skin around the outside, it is now halfway healed over, the skin is no longer tender, it IS scar tissue, but that was expected, it still drains a tiny amount but is no longer sore, and the GI told us to carry on as he does expect it to heal with HBOT.  Crohn's symptoms are almost non existent, no stomach pain / nausea/ joint problems etc, and he's had no more (internal) fissures since last September.   March is when he was diagnosed, and last Feb. March was really rough with a flare as well, this year he's been a bit more tired than at other times of the year (could be because it's been raining since December here on the West Coast), but overall good. 

We still follow SCD, he is on LDN, and he does HBOT about 2 x per week, he doesn't have to get up first thing in the AM for BM's anymore, and occasionally even skips a day (wow, the things we get excited about!).   Life is good.  He's a typical teen - with restricted eating- getting A honors, and will be looking for an after school job soon.

That really sounds encouraging. We are on day 3 of HBOT and have two setons in place. Hoping for results similar to yours. Spoke with another crohn's patient that purchased his own HBO chamber and credits it with his first solid BM in 20 years.

Did you end up buying the HBO chamber, and if so would you mind sharing that info?

Congratulations - happy to hear another person is trying HBOT - don't expect immediate results, it took Mitch close to 30 sessions before he saw results the first time around.  Also if you can do 2 sessions a day for the first 10 - 20 sessions that is supposed to speed your results along.   Are you doing your sessions at a clinic or on your own?  

My son did the first 50 sessions at a clinic, stopped in October, went backwards (Crohn's wise) the next Feb/March, and then we bought one last June. 

His first sessions were done at 2.0 ATA (at the clinic).   In the USA you can only buy a softsided HBOT unit that will go to 1.3 ATA, we are international (Canada) so we were able to get one that goes to 1.5 ATA.

We are doing them at a clinic using a soft sided Vitaeris 320 at 1.3 atmospheres for about an hour a day each weekday. Takes a big chunk out of the day to get there and back and having one in the home would definitely be helpful. The person that runs the clinic says that the company (OxyHealth) that makes this unit is the only one he'd recommend buying a chamber from. He's tried others, but given the amount of use his chambers get, the others just broke down too quickly.

What type/company did you use for your purchase? Also, just trying to understand what treatment your son had. The HBOT treatments stopped in October and you didn't re-start them until you purchased a unit in June, is that correct? How long after you started the second HBOT treatments did it take for your son to respond? Finally, please provide me with the winning Lotto numbers for next week's drawing :-)

We have a Sea to Summitt chamber, it is made in France, and although the first models of this chamber had problems (5 or so years ago), the company stood behind their product and either replaced or repaired.  There have been no problems with it in recent years.   Oxyhealth would not upgrade to a 1.5 ATA, also we are not commercial, so the chamber is not being used multiple times/day.   

Regarding our son's treatment, he started HBOT and LDN in August 2009 at a clinic at 2.0 ata (this is considered a deep dive and is the most beneficial for wound healing).  We stopped treatment in October, Crohn's was in remission and he felt great - fistula was not quite healed, but doing well.   In Jan 2010 he started feeling not as well, and by Feb he was definitely having Crohn's type symptoms again.  His LDN had been compounded incorrectly and we had that changed, by April he was starting to feel better again.  At the end of June 2010 we purchased our HBOT and he did 40 sessions - 2 a day for the first 2 weeks, then 1 a day taking weekends off.  It took about 20 sessions for him to feel like he was in remission again.    Since then he has done a maintenance regimen of 2 or 3 sessions per week, occasionally taking weeks off due to exams / busy schedule etc.      

I'm not sure where you are, but we claimed all expenses associated with hyperbaric on our taxes and just got notified today that it was all accepted.   Cronic or deep wound healing is a Health Canada approved use of HBOT so that definitely helped offset SOME of the purchase of the unit.  Pretty happy about that!! 

Oh and about those Lotto numbers - I'd tell you but. . .
