Which best hospitals have great (and not so great) nurses?

I'm disappointed so far tho, that I'm not finding the nurse/patient ratios like US New & World Report used to include in their rankings. *sigh*

Looks like my hosp. UPMC has slipped a bit in the ratings. No matter I still feel it's the best place to go in the Pittsburgh area if you have CD.

When I was at Mayo, I think my nurse had at most 2 patients at a time. They always had tons of nurses up on the GI Surgery floor!

I had my resection surgery at Cleveland Clinic (#4). The surgery team was great, but some of the nurses were subpar. It didn't help that they didn't put me on the GI floor. (which I didn't know until I came out of surgery)My roommate had just had her leg amputated because of a chemical burn ealier in that month and was having complications and moaned because of the pain. I was also throwing up for 2 days straight and come to find out they had me on demeral after I had told them over and over that it makes me sick. But the doctor said that was his drug of choice so they just let keep suffering. (Personally I don't think the nurse ever called him) I begged for an NG tube but wasn't given one. On day 5 my mom got extremely mean and they gave me a veteran nurse who got my meds switched. She was wonderful!!!!!!!! When I was discharged 5 days later a new nurse who had only been in the states for 5 days and barely spoke English tried to take out my staples that weren't supposed to come out for a few more days because of an infection. I had to scream in order for her to stop. It is pretty hard to fight off someone when you have 30 staples in your belly. It really was quite comical when I think about it now. Almost like an I Love Lucy episode. I was so glad to get out of there that I cried when I got in the car to head home.

my hospital (Rhode Island Hospital) isn't on the list for GI, but I Love that hospital, the nurses are great and I love my surgeon and most of my doctors.

It's all about your personal experience if you ask me. I do happen to go to a well rated hospital system but know of others who have gone to top rated hospitals and got mis-diagnosed there, had to go to another hospital only to get diagnosed with crohn's!

Mine doesn't even show up on the list...not suprised, but there aren't any listed in GA...guess I'd have to move for better service. I do love and trust my surgeon with my life, so I wouldn't switch even if there was a hospital ranked better than the one I go to.
