mouth ulcers

I use a med called Aphthasol. It's a creme-like med that you put on the ulcer (mouth) and it forms like a bandage. Cuts the number of days that you feel the pain in half, and the sore heals more quickly too. I find most of my doctors hadn't heard of this. I learned it because my step-mom is an oral hygienist and at first I had my dentist prescribe it. Now my GI does. It's really worth it...

Once when my daughter and I got hand, foot, mouth disease and I had sores all in my mouth, I decided to call the dentist and he gave me something as well that the dr hadn't thouth of that provided the best relief. I agree with sr55 that you might want to try your dentist.

I had them for two years in relation to Crohn's. Get a prescription for triamcinolone. It's a topical steroid and it helped me.

I know that mouth ulcers are the least of alot of people's problems, and so i feel bad for complaining about them! but they do really hurt tho- so much so that it hurts to talk, and iv eaten very little today, depite actually having an appetite! im going to see my GP tomorro to try the get some tpoical steroid or something like that. My flare isnt bad enough for oral pred, so im hoping topical steroids will do the trick!

Try taking L-Lysine HCl supplements. It is an amino acid you are probably short on... You can buy it cheap at CVS or Walgreens. I take 1000 mg daily and have not had a sore in about 6 months now. There is also a topical mouth sore treatment made with Lysine that you can find in the oral med section, but it may be more useful for ulcers outside the mouth. I was getting tons of them, inside, but also these horrible craters on my lips that ruined my apprearance, almost back to back, until I found a post on another site about using Lysine supplementation. I'm also on Remicade, and I ahd always chalked the sores up to inflammations (like my bowels have), but while the Remi helped my bowel , it wasn't taking care of this issue at all... If you have open sores now, I would start to take 2000-3000 mg for a few days until they noticably start to heal up for you, and then continue to take 1000 mg daily. Hope it helps you - it helped me for sure.

Just got off steroids for a bad bout of with mouth sores that went all the way down my esphogus ... ask for "Magic Mouthwash" takes a while to work, but effective and inexpensive. Hang in there!  You will want to treat your Crohn's more aggressively as it will then help your mouth sores ...

my dr prescribed me a 5 day course of some hydrocortisone pellets that i allow to dissolve in my mouth and it acts as a topical steroid. They seem to be working a little as the pain is alot better, but the ulcers are still there too. I've only got 1 n half days of the hydrocortisone left! Im going back to see him in a few days, and he said that if the hydrocortisone hasnt cleared them, then i need some oral pred. I'm not really sure how i feel about that to be honest!

I'll definatey ask my GI about the deficiencies that people have mentioned as i always seem to get alot of mouth ulcers and so im wondering if it is due to a deficiency rather than a flare up of the crohns- at least some of the time anyway!

I've had horrible, agonising periods where my mouth would be filled with 20+ ulcers, it was excrutiating, I couldn’t talk let alone eat :(

I tried Bonjella, the mouth-ulcer gel, and also this other stuff which is a numbing paint designed for mouth-ulcers. Both were effective but NOTHING worked like salt rinses did. I would make the salt solution as warm and as strong (salty) as possible, and hold it in my mouth as long as I could bear it. Sometimes it would even make the ulcers bleed, but it made them heal faster than anything else did; and provided temporary relief from the pain too. Hope this helps somewhat and they leave you alone soon!
