This would happen as soon as doctors are gone for the weekend...

I was at dinner tonight when I started getting an unusual feeling on one side of my face. By the time I got home it was becoming painful and now I have realized I have one upper wisdom tooth that broke through my gums and is coming in. Perhaps I should have thought about this sooner but when I saw an oral surgeon at the beginning of the year he said I only had 2 wisdom teeth and they didn't seem to be moving. Because I was already 26 he told me he didn't see the point in removing them because they may never come in. Since starting immunosupressants I have had problems with my gums becoming inflamed so I am incredibly nervous to have oral surgery. This coming Tuesday I am due to get my second set of Humira loading doses, which makes me even more reluctant. Has anyone else had their wisdom teeth removed while on immunosupressants? Did you do anything like antibiotics to prepare? I know this is so petty compared to a lot of procedures others are going through, I just don't want to elect to have something that could end up causing more serious problems.

talk to your GI and or primary care doc along with the oral surgeon before you decide to do anything...

Yes I had mine done while on Humira with no problems

I had my wisdom teeth out while on Imuran, and I was not required to take antibiotics beforehand. There were some problems during the surgery, but not due to meds (primarily, they couldn't get one side numb, so I screamed through the entire thing, then his equipment got stuck between my teeth, and he sprained my jaw trying to wriggle it out). The only thing the Imuran didn't help with was that it didn't heal properly. I had two separate infections in a gum pocket that didn't heal, and the dentist told me that it would continue to happen unless the oral surgeon went in and cleaned it up. I had to have another surgery last year, and haven't had any problems since.

You should talk to your oral surgeon and let him know what kind of medications you are on. Chances are, there will be some kind of precedent for that kind of thing.
