Ibuprofen - thoughts?

The only time I ever take an NSAID is when I have a bad migraine. OTC migraine pills work great.

When I last took ibuprophen, it gave me rectal bleeding so I switched to tylenol. You could ask for a presciption for something stonger.

I have also been told not to take it, but I admit to using it occasionally for a bad headache or muscle aches that I can't deal with any more. Tylenol does absolutely nothing for me and trust me, I've tried. I have no issues with bleeding, so I feel safe taking it occasionally, but the dr told me it can cause us crohnies to flare. I had a pain management doc tell me that if I was going to take it, use the softgel type. It releases quicker and does less damage.

I take it sparingly. For a nasty headache, for an acute injury, I'll take it for 24 hours, no more. I've had the pain when going longer than that and I don't want that pain again. But it is extremely effective for inflamed joints, muscle injuries and headaches!

I sometimes ( like now with active arthritic symptoms) take Advil PM.

I think ibuprofen is what led to my initial diagnosis (I ended up with a major GI bleed and in emerg). I have taken it throughout the years for menstrual cramps because it is the only thing that could help me manage that pain. I have just recently gotten an IUD in hopes that the cramps etc will reduce so that I don't have to take any ibuprofen. When I have taken it I really feel it sets things off in my guts (including bleeding). Also, the pharmacist told me that I REALLY shouldn't be taking it now that I am on so much Pentasa (9 per day) because since Pentasa is an aspirin if you combine it with ibuprofen and have a bleed in your intestine the two together could cause a MAJOR bleed. For me, I should avoid it, but I haven't always "behaved"!

I take it all the time. Doesn't bother me a bit and it's the only thing that actually helps the pain. I mostly take it when I have rectal pain from a bad bm. If it's messing with my guts, I haven't noticed.

I think Ibruprofen is what ended my nearly 20 year remission. I would avoid it at all costs. JMHO

I avoid it, except the very, very rare time I take *1* - like every couple of months. I am a bleeder, and I notice a big difference (increase in blood) if I take the NSAIDS. A few years ago I hemorrhaged - lost half my blood. The docs thought it might have been, in part, the Aleve I'd taken that weekend. That was before they told me no Aleve and I had no pain meds yet, so it was the only thing that helped take the edge off the pain.

I take some time to time. I haven't noticed a problem but I try to avoid it anyway as per medical advice.

Ibuprofen was the straw that broke the camel's back and sent me into emergency surgery. I hadn't yet been diagnosed with Crohn's, and I thought I'd had a particularly bad stomach virus--and then thought I'd somehow pulled an abdominal muscle (because of the intense lower left quadrant paint I was experiencing). I went to the gym teacher at the school where I worked and asked her what to do about a pulled abdominal muscle--and she told me to ice it down and take plenty of Ibuprofen. After two or three days, I was immeasurably worse and barely able to walk or move (or sit still), so I went to my family doctor, who suspected acute appendicitis--but had the sense to get an emergency scan before the surgery. So I steer clear of aspirin and ibuprofen at all costs--even though they'd help with my osteoarthritis. I'd rather have aching joints than more abdominal surgery, thanks.
